Can Sammael can be your warlord in his land speeder? While the wording in the rulebook seems to indicate that the warlord must be a character model, there are some things in the Dark Angels codex that seem to indicate that Sammael can be the warlord no matter what he is riding in. I would hope that he can be the warlord even in the speeder, because I actually have that model and the jetbike one is expensive! I know that this question has been answered before, but many of the answers I have found on the net contradict each other and most pre-date the 7th edition rules. I know that there are other character vehicles out there (Bjorn the Fell-handed for example), so perhaps this can answer other players' questions too!

A guard tank commander can be your warlord, can't it?

Never saw anything to stop it and have run him as my warlord several times in LS. I do play in a very friendly laid back group though who practise the art of gentleman (gentle person?) gaming. no room for "that guy".

I know the jetbike is expensive but is worth picking up for several reasons;

1)eternal warrior
2) not getting beaten down in CC (nice to make use of the AP2 sword)
3) LS doesn't put out a huge amount of death. yes the twin-linked weapons can kill but only a max of 7 models a turn, not good for dropping vehicles and no charging.
4)loss of scout, outflank and skilled rider. Don't forget skilled rider can be put onto other squads he joins. if you put him with an attack squad instead of black knights this can really help especially if you have a darkshroud
5) always keeping the AV10 rear away from your enemy. yes AV14 with 4++ is very cool but for more points than a land raider?
6) The jet bike just looks damn cool.

All that said, I have turned a game around by deep striking the LS in the back field before.

Never forgive, never remember!

Strictly speaking, he can only be your Warlord if your list doesn't include any Characters (including squad Sergeants), and even then wouldn't get a Warlord Trait (p124). But the RAI is pretty clear that he can, since whilst it's not crystal clear he keeps his Trait in the army list entry (the line Warlord Trait is missing from the Sableclaw entry, p93), the entry for the Warlord Trait itself explains how it affects Sammael if you take Sableclaw (Rapid Manoeuvre, p28 DA Codex).

Thanks for answering my question guys! I was pretty sure my local 40k group would be ok with it as we don't have any serious "rules nazis", but I just thought I'd bring it up here too. Thanks again!
