The rule says within 6".... do the unfolded sides count as part of the hull (they are in fact part of the hull, at least to start with) or can you only measure 6" from the central hub?
If it's only from the hub, how do you guys go with the amount of space in between the unfolded sides/ramps? Obviously your new unit would have to fit inside the points...... is there enough room to safely DS a unit of 10 Sky Claws with a Wolf Priest?

No. Only the hull, or a better way of thinking I'd the bottom portion of the pod was upside down, counts. And yes sir there is. Use to run a whole 9 drop pod crimson fist army.

Problem is, you cannot modify a model during a game.
So you cannot measure for the pod to arrive then open the doors. Either you DS the Pod with the doors "glued open"(don't glue them) in which case you will struggle to place the pod, but then measure anything to the hull, being the open doors. You can also measure disembarking as 6" from the tip of the door.
OR you discount the doors upon DS (meaning you can place the pod almost anywhere) and you only measure to the "hull" (not the doors). This also means that there are no doors to block the positioning of other Units around the pod

I've had this discussion before as the rules for a beacon state that it is 6" from the model so theoretically it is any part of it including the tip of the door when opened.
It was eventually agreed that I should measure from the base as then if an opponent targets the pod and can reach the tip of the the door (e.g. with a edge of a blast attack) he could destroy the actual pod.
Also adding an extra 6 or so inches to the measurement was taking the mick a little.

Doors and weapons and vehicle gear are never part of the model for game-rules purposes.
So yea, you shouldn't measure from the door.

So just curious...how do you draw LoS and declare a target from a vehicle, if weapons are never part of a model for rules purposes?
And if doors are never part of a model, does that mean I can draw LoS through the middle of a Land Raider, since its doors don't exist?
IMO, I always ignore the open doors of my Pods because counting them would make the thing unmanageable.
This is a special treatment that I (and everyone I play with) uses with Drop Pods only--we don't apply it to anything else.

As I replied in the other thread discussing this issue, this is not entirely accurate.
Instead, for distances involving a vehicle, measure to and from their hull, ignore gun barrels, dozer blades, antennas, banners and other decorative elements.
If you wish to define a Drop Pod's doors as a "decorative element" then yes, they should be ignored, but that is not a clearly defined state.

Sorry I shouldnt have seaid rules purposes. I should have said they dont count for parts of the hull for measuring purposes, unless the doors are shut, then they are flush with the hull and are part of the hull.
And of course weapons count for their own shooting purposes, but if you charge a vehicle, and your model is touching the barrel of the gun but not the hull, you failed the charge.

You're still misrepresenting what the rules say. The rules specify "gun barrels, dozer blades, antennas, banners and other decorative elements". Doors are not specifically defined by the rules so you are deciding for yourself that doors are simply a decorative element (because they are not gun barrels, dozer blades, antennas or banners).
By all means, decide that doors are decorative elements and therefore can be ignored for measuring purposes, but do not expect everyone to agree with you

I'm happy to play it that way, but it does beg a few other considerations:
If the doors don't count, does that mean I don't have to avoid the doors when placing my troops that deep strike next to the pod? or troops disembarking from the drop pod?
Does it also mean that I could potentially position the drop pod right next to terrain or another model and just not deploy any doors that might get in the way?
Also, this interpretation kind of conflicts with the rule for dreadnought drop pods, which says the dreadnought counts as still embarked on the drop pod if it's standing on the doors

In the other, similar thread about Drop Pods and measuring/disembarking, I came to the conclusion that for disembarking purposes the doors do indeed count, by RAW ( emphasis mine):
OPEN-TOPPED TRANSPORTS
Open-topped vehicles do not have specific Access Points. Instead, all of the vehicle is considered to be an Access Point (regardless of any base they may have)
That is to say that for disembarking models may be placed in base contact with the doors and then may move up to 6", ending their disembark move wholly within 6" of the vehicle. Models are specifically not allowed to move or pivot through other models at any time so I do not believe you can ignore the doors for this purpose.
Does it also mean that I could potentially position the drop pod right next to terrain or another model and just not deploy any doors that might get in the way?
The Drop Pod rules have some flavour explanation within the rule stating the hatches are blown, or something to that effect, so I would not allow this.
Also, this interpretation kind of conflicts with the rule for dreadnought drop pods, which says the dreadnought counts as still embarked on the drop pod if it's standing on the doors
Dreadnought Drop Pods are another kettle of fish as they are a completely different unit, and in that case it is implied a Dreadnought may remain embarked upon the Drop Pod, and may move freely on its doors when disembarking. It does not count as embarked upon the Drop Pod if standing on its doors, however.

If you're playing that the doors are ignored, then yes, they are ignored for all rules purposes.
Does it also mean that I could potentially position the drop pod right next to terrain or another model and just not deploy any doors that might get in the way?
You can do that regardless of whether or not you are counting the doors for measurement. There is no requirement in the rules to open a drop pod's doors, just as there is no requirement to do so for any other vehicle.
Also, this interpretation kind of conflicts with the rule for dreadnought drop pods, which says the dreadnought counts as still embarked on the drop pod if it's standing on the doors
I assume you're talking about the Lucius Pod? If you happen to be using it, then you would need to discuss how to deal with that with your opponent.

Wait, so now I'm confused again.... do the doors count as part of the vehicle or not?
How would it be played in a tournament?

At all the events i've been to, the drop doors were ignored entirely, for everything; models, (friendly and enemy) could walk on them, they didn't count for locator beacons, etc
This is HIWPI and always have seen it played

Strictly RAW - Maybe.
How would it be played in a tournament?
Most major tournies ignore the doors. You would need to check the specific tournie you're entering, though, as there is no single tournament standard that woudl apply to all of them.
