I was thumbing through some old issues of White Dwarf today, and stumbled across the Index Astares article about the Relictors.

Anywho... what do you guys think.  Are the rules still usable with the advent of the new marine codex or not?

They'll certainly usable, and really quite characterful.

But, if you're going the tournament route with them, I would absolutely get clearance beforehand. And in writing, if possible!

Last year (or was it the year before last?), they were OK for US tournaments, accourding to Jeff Hall.

It would be a shame if GW let them go by the wayside, as they're a chapter with a lot of potential...

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I wouldnt bother with trying Relictors rules. Just take them as Codex marines and equip any power weapon wielding model with a Fantasy chaos warriors sword or a suitable CSM weapon. Its obviouslty daemonic but its just a power weapon. I would wrap phlacteries and purity seals around the hilt too, that is what old school Grey Knight characters did when they wielded daemon weapons in previous editions of 40K.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I would also agree that they are useable with the new codex, but would also say that you should not use traits with them.  The Relictors are a codex chapter who use daemon weapons (I know, that's not too codex ;-)

You could also check out Relictors.com for all kinds of info about them, painting guides, and debates about the Index Astartes article.

I'm planning on making Relictors as well to go with my Radical =I=

You could make a pretty good relictors force using the chaos codex.

Good point Legacy...

And that's what anyone who really wants to "legally" field a Relictors force in a really strict tournament environment will probably have to do.

To add a little more fuel to the discussion... (and since I've been in the mood to browse ye ole collection), what about characters that were added into the game in issues of WD, such as Captain Invictus?

Obviously, they wouldn't be used in a relictor force... but what about adding him into an ultramarines army (using the current codex, of course).

Their rules were approved for the US in 2005 by the lead guy who sets up official GW gaming.  Not sure about 2006. Go to http://www.relictors.com/nuke/html/index.php for more info.

Better yet, this page is better(from the same site) http://www.relictors.com/nuke/html/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=19
Basically you could use the rules minus traits.  The rules have a trait system already built in. (can get special gear and items per two WD, but cannot have allies except a radical Inq)
