I'm curious as to what people think the strongest/best artefacts are? And, do you think any one army has the best selection of artefacts?

Also, what are people's favourite artefacts?

The Eye of Night in the Black Legion supplement wrecks face, haywire maelstrom is pretty darn good. Pricey though.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Armor Indominatus (or whatever) and the Shield Eternal are super dope for Space Marines. For Eldar, I ignore almost all of them except for the Spirit Stone of Anath'lan for lowering the ML of a spell by 1 at the cost of the Farseers Invul Save, and the Firesabre for my fluffy Farseer who's gone mad, I try to roll Death Mission every game with her heheh.

Valor's Edge might be one of the best value Relics there is. 5pts more than a normal Power Sword and is AP2 at Initiative. Very useful in a squad of Sanguinary Guard to make a Sanguinary Priest worth something in combat.

But the Parasite's Kiss from Dark Eldar, Mantle of the Laughing God from Eldar and Bones of Baelsor from the Flesh Tearers are all up there too. The Bones is just a big middle finger to my Tyranid list since I am so reliant on Venom Cannons and Bio-plasma. I like that there's a Relic our there that seems specifically tailored to fighting my preferred type of weapons.

As a whole though, the Blood Angel Relics are very good. Almost all of them have a reason to be there and can really buff a squad or character in their common role on the field.

Shield Eternal or Gorgon's Chain are usually quoted as the strongest, but the Mantle of the Laughing God is pretty brutal. As to personal favourites if I had to pick one as the coolest ever it's got to be the Lion's Roar (Assault combi-plasma-cannon FTW).

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I really like the Parasite's Kiss. Not something to build a strategy around, but a very nice buy for 5pts.

My favourite is probably Kurov's Aquila for the Imperial Guard. Preferred enemy to everything within 6" of a Commander is a beautiful thing for a chunk of gunline, especially hiding behind an Aegis, with all those orders.

Valour's Edge is probably best value, and works really well for BA on a charge.

The Veritas Vitae is an interesting choice for 15 points. An extra Warlord Trait on the Strategic table is hard to put a value on, but I think it's neat.

Chaos has the Black Mace, and the Burning Brand of Skalthrax [sp?] that are pretty brutal.

Eternal Shield probably is the *best* Relic, for what it gives Marines, but there are other Relics that I think are more interesting / fun to use.

The Gorgon's Chain from the Clan Raukaan and the Shield Eternal from the vanilla SM codex are awesome for making your HQ nigh-invincible. The Mantle of the Laughing God is similarly awesome for Eldar Jetbike HQs. Those 2+ re-rollable cover saves are crazy.

The Black Mace is an inordinately scary weapon, especially when carried by a Daemon Prince.

Several of the Tau signature systems are really good, but the one I most get a kick out of the Onager Gauntlet. A really cheap God Hand for your commander (really funny if you manage to instagib your opponent's warlord in a challenge).

Gonna have to agree with Daniel on the 5 point donkey punch for Tau. Nothing quite hurts like my "assumes I lose if you reach me in CC Tau" turning around and mopping up a 200+ CC monster because it wasn't t6 or EW. xD

I know it's already been said, but the Burning brand is excellent for it's cost. Believe it or not, my FLGS wants to ban it in casual games :(
And the Black Mace is excellent: let your Daemon Prince ignore hordes and tarpits? Yes please!

Otherwise, I love the Death Guard relic from HH. I know it'w not that good, but It's the coolest thing ever: poisoning people with nanomachines just by getting close to them? I love it!

Grimoire of True Names. There is nothing - not even Serpent spam, that is more heinously broken & unfun than an entire unit of re-rolled 2++ saves... Sure Screamerstar isn't nearly the massive donkey punch that it was in 6th, but overall, it's still stupidly easy to build a Tzeentchian deathstar unit that'll munch anything it touches.

Hope you brought your Str.D to deal with it!

For my Eldar...if I take a Relic it is the Phoenix Gem. Nothing funnier then turning into a Daemon (courtesy of Malefic) and then having the Farseer stand back up, brush himself off, and then turn into another Daemon.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

My absolute favorite has to be the Fusion Blades for a Tau enclaves commander. Suddenly CC Tau becomes a reality as you start to smash face. S8, ap2, blind, armorbane, and special rule that says you roll a D6 on a 1 it breaks.

Nightmare Doll for covens is really cool as well, can negate the first ID wound. And I like to picture it as a tiny teddy bear carried around by such a monstrosity.

Eh. The unit is neutered if you miss your 3+. It basically forces you to bring Fateweaver and even then it can still backfire and leave you vulnerable. I agree that it's incredibly strong but unlike Serpent Spam, when it backfires, it backfires...

Axe of Blind Fury is hard to argue with.

The Tau CCN, MSS and PEN chip are great for synergy though.

My personal favourite, although its not purchasable, is shadowsun's XV22 stealth suit.

I was going to say MURDER SWORD as well.

Not only is it just fantastically named (simple, to the point, and over the top, all in one), but in a challenge, few things make your opponents poop themselves quite like it does
