New-ish player here and I'm looking to get started.
My names' Danial, I'm from Washington, and I love Warhammer...
Only one problem, I've never even played it

I've got over 1,200 hours across all the DoW and I watch Battle Reports
almost religiously. But the time has come and I want to play on the table.

After some research, and delving into the psyche behind each army's play style
I've found that the Astra Millitarum is the way to go for me.

But now the big question;
Where do I start? What should I invest in. ALSO there are two very important questions I would like answered

1) My buddies and I a creating a modular 6x4 "Trench Warfare" board and were wondering if there were any strong
resources on "Texturing with Snow"? We want a snow warfare board.

and 2) Along side our board project we will all probably be playing from home very often and are going for "Snow" Varients for our armys.
Are there any IG Regiments that have a Army Color scheme I can reference?

With all that being said, hello everyone and I'm happy to be here!

"For everyone of us that falls, ten more will take his place!"

I love Dawn of War.

I have absolutely no knowledge of AM whatsoever, other than you can either go vehicle heavy or have blobs of infantry. You might want to head here for advice on which playstyle you want to go with, as well as recommended units.

As for your questions, you might get some good answers in the Painting and Modeling forums and the 40K Background forums. Of course, you could always make your own regiment up that operates in arctic conditions.

Welcome to Dakka and enjoy your stay

Greetings!

There are a lot of different ways to make textured snow. Most places will give the following, and I can attest to its effectiveness:
-1 part PVA glue
-1 part baking soda
-dash of white acrylic paint (to prevent yellowing)

Find a consistency that works for you (should be not too runny, not too clumpy) and go to town! Brushing it on with a stiff brush, or spreading it with a metal tool and then brushing it work best I have found. If you want more detail, just try googling it and skimming a few videos/articles.

As far as snow-themed IG regiments, I would once again try the Googles.

Good luck on your hobby endeavors.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
