just geting into 40k and got the deathstorm shield of baal boxset to start my tyrnaid army
want to start a small 1000 point army using the Phodian annihilation swarm formation in the book do you think it is any good to take or not?
and also how would you spend the rest of the 450 points to make it up to a 1000 point army that is fun to play.
i was thinking adding
Deathleaper as hq
3xtyranid warriors with deathspitters
12xhormagaunts
and a carnifex with 2x twin-linked devourer with brainleech worms
makes 1000 points
any good?

For a starting army that's not a bad attempt, Not my personal style but as a starting army it''ll be good to see which units you enjoy using and which ones you don't.

I'll also leave this thread as it's the most comprehensive Tyranid Tactica and probably on all of Dakka, with ~290 pages of unit reviews and opinions from Tyranid players, from beginners right the way up to tournament winners.

As above, this thread Frozo has linked is awesome, and it might seem daunting to read 290+ pages of info, just start on page one as the hive has been putting together unit reviews and ratings and they are on page one
