just geting into 40k and got the deathstorm shield of baal boxset to start my tyrnaid army
want to start a small 1000 point army using the Phodian annihilation swarm formation in the book do you think it is any good to take or not?
and also how would you spend the rest of the 450 points to make it up to a 1000 point army that is fun to play.
i was thinking adding
Deathleaper as hq
3xtyranid warriors with deathspitters
12xhormagaunts
and a carnifex with 2x twin-linked devourer with brainleech worms
makes 1000 points
any good?

i'm going to beat the vet nid players to the punch, you want flying tyrants as many as you can fit..every competetive nid player will tell you to run flyrants with twin linked dev+brain leech worms...also yes use the dakkafex(carnifex as you had it). I've never had much luck with warriors, they are very hit and miss with me, gaunts are almost the better option for 90 points a brood(you can max out a termi or hormo brood for about that if i remember right) which gives you the numbers advantage and cannon fodder if you need it.

I replied in Army List...yeah, you will want a couple of Winged Tyrants, likely more...so go ahead and get one, then fill in as you go.

You want at least 3 tyrants and 1 venomthrope for the +2cover turn 1. as troops take something cheap like swarms. dakka fexs are ok, but I don't think you need more then 2 and you always want to have more tyrants then fex.

Also the haywire flying MC are realy brutal. Most nid armies run 3 or more tyrants and 3 of those haywire ones.
