Hi. Just got some infinity stuff, so I need to varnish them, bit the thing is that I never used varnish on my GW models before, so I am a noob at this.
One person that I know brushes the b]varnish on, the second one uses spray cans of varnish. What do you suggest? Army painter maybe? And hoe do you use it? I dont want to loose any detail on my models and ruin their paint job, so I am paranoid

Yep, Testor's Dullcote is the gold standard when it comes to varnishes.

I've used Testors before and like the result. If you go with mat, you can finish up any glossy parts with a brush-on gloss. I use a gloss medium by Liquitex that works pretty well for things like saliva or sweat.

Dont want any gloss at all, dont like how it looks like ^^)

But how do I spray it on? Should I put the miniature very close to the can?

Read the label. With any spray, following the directions on the can is the best place to start. Should give you acceptable temperature and humidity ranges, as well as recommended spray distance. Test on a scrap piece, first, to make sure it's laying down like you want it to.

As with all spraying, optimum distance is 20-30cm AWAY from the can.

Start spraying before and finish spraying PAST the miniature(s) (ie, don't start OR end ON a mini, this will only make the paint/varnish pool on the figure and cause issues).

I use a local polyurethane varnish spray (estapol matt) which is matt enough for me - because dullcote sells out faster than U2 did.

Hey! I thought I would share my thoughts.

I use vallejo matt varnish for dulling down decals on shoulder pads or other areas. When trying to dull decals with spraypaint it can use up quite a lot that's why I like to use the liquid matt varnish for that.

For bulk applications like the others have said Testors matt spray works great but it only comes in small expensive cans that run out very quickly. I have found Krylon clear matt finish to work almost the exact same at half the cost and quadruple the amount. Some people have reported frosting or other issues in high humidity, but I have never experienced that issue, as always I would test on a single model before going on to finish your army. Another issue people have reported with Krylon was yellowing, but again I have not seen that issue yet.

Also never stop moving the spray can when you are spraying things, you want light coats from FAR away, multiple light coats are better than pools of paint on the model.

I prefer Winsor Newton Galleria Acrylic Matte Varnish. Easy to apply (I do full strength, but some like to dilute) dries quite flat and no worries about spray distance, humidity, smell, etc.

It's also fairly inexpensive and available at most art stores.

Me being the lazy feck that I am use Army Painters Matte Varnish. Cheap enough and I don't have to trek to the artstore..
