I have been collecting ultramarines for several years now and have tried a few ways of painting the blue, currently i use; macragge blue as a base, a wash of drakenof nightshade, a heavy drybrush of altorf guard blue, a light drybrush of calger blue, an even lighter drybrush of etherium blue and a glaze of guilliman blue to bring it all together. i find it works quite well but not quite what i want, i am looking more for the richer blue in the illustrations of the 7th edition codex. any tips would be useful on how to achieve this and i would be grateful if you could use citadel paints as they are the easiest available to me, i would be really grateful for the tips and hints.
thanks the clone

Not at all my guide but is it something like this you are after:

??
IMO drybrushing will give you more of a dull end result compared to layering and highlighting... Have you tried painting them by going base > wash > base (leaving recesses so they are shaded" > Edge highlight? Its far simpler than the guide posted above and should give you a nice blue...if you want it a lighter colour do another layer before higlighting (again leaving the recesses)

Can you show us a picture of what you have got so far?

Ok, i don't have a good camera but i will try to take a decent pic tonight or tomorrow, thanks guys.

btw, i sometimes do base, wash, base (leave recess), sometimes drybrush, highlight which looks quite good but the reason i said i used s much drybrushing is that it was the simplest way to describe it (with the medium blue i put a remble amount of blue on a larger brush and swipe it over the model leaving recess) and with the calger blue i thin it down and either light drybrush or thin highlight.
the tutorial is quite complex but looks good and i will try parts out.

Here is a link to my blog where I describe my process. It’s not fancy, but yields a decent, easy, darker Ultramarine. YMMV.
