Subject: [1850] - SM - White Scars - vs Tau extra competitive!

Hello all!
Please review my list , it is meant to play against Tau, i have no idea what my opponent will bring, but it will not be a fluff-game!
Khan, Moondrakkan
DA Librarian, PFG
Bike Squad (5), grav-gun x2, combi-grav, melta bombs
Bike Squad (5), meltagun x2, combi-melta, melta bombs
DA Scout squad, snipers, camo cloaks
Sternguard Squad (10), combi-melta x5, drop pod
Sternguard Squad (10), Rhino
Devastator Centurion squad (3), grav-cannons x3
Land Raider Redeemer as dedicated transport for the centurions
Thunderfire Cannon
Thunderfire Cannon
Strategy:
The Dark Angel Librarian joins the Cents in the Land Raider, Khan rides with a bike squad
With Khan i scout 12" the 2 bike squads, the sternguard Rhino and the Land Raider.
The PFG gives 4++ to the Land Raider and units at 3"
First turn get as close as possible and try to knock out pathfinders etc with Thunderfires, sternguard special ammo and the redeemer flamestorm cannons.
Centurions disembark and go after riptides, broadsides etc while getting a 4++ and prescience from the DA Libby.
In short, try to get as close as possible as quickly as possible.
What do you think? Is it any good?
I am not quite sold on the Land Raider, i never use them but it seemed like a nice way to deliver the cents, Tau are a bit intimidated by AV 14 and the flamestorms ignore cover
Thanks!

I don't think grav weapons will be particular good vs tau. Grav weapons are only very good vs riptides nothing else maybe battlesuits and broadsides but you got meltas.
Skip the land raider, take a stormraven or more bikes instead. If you wanna get close as fast as possible why not take only drop pods for your sternguards? Otherwise the list looks pretty good, like the DA libby! Prescience for everyone!

What i can not do is take more bikes. I have 10+ models but they are all currently in various stages of assembling and painting.
Apart from that i have almost any other SM model in multiples.
Stormraven as a transport is out of the question as it comes t2 at best and then i have to deep strike very bulky models. Not to take EWO in account (and that is my fear for taking more pods)..
What you say is my biggest dilemma and it comes down to: Do i want the Cents or not? Are they worth it?
If i do not take them i can clear the DA Libby, the scouts, the land raider. They all exists to make Cents deadly.
And then flood the board with talons, and more, more bodies (tacs and sterns in scouting Rhinos)
I am not sure which way is the best, that is why i am asking advice.
My initial thinking was to use cents to maximum effect for 2-3 turns to take out biggest threats

Skip the cents completely and replace them with TH/SS termies in a land raider. Tacs in rhinos are a good choice, maybe some vanguard vets instead of one group of sterguards.

Sorry but your PFG in a landraider tactic no longer works.
The DA FAQ now limits the PFG to only effecting models inside the vehicle, and not even the vehicle itself.
If you want the PFG to be usable, then you need to give the librarian a bike, and make him drive behind the raider.

The centurions are absolutely worth it, but you're running the wrong allies. Grab ultramarines and get tigurius. He has more reliability in the psychic phase. The land raider idea is ok I guess, you could give it a 4+ inv with forewarning from tigurius. You really should get more bikes though. I particularly like a command squad on bikes with Khan.

He would be ideal but he costs 70 pts more and i would spent 315 pts on HQ slots only..
Usually, except from when i play Ultras and Tiggy, i spend 65 pts for a normal Libby and use the pts to bring more units

I don't play marines but I do play tau and armor 14 is really tough to deal with a lot of times so land raiders hauling your cc oriented troops closer and closer are frightening. Especially if you are playing the short way on the board you'd be able to assault fairly early in the game so go for Riptides who are absolutely terrible in cc. I very seldom lose a riptide to shooting but in close combat it happens all the time

What kind of units kill a Riptide in melee? Even with a Land Raider TH termies are too slow to catch it..
Other marines units need to bypass T6 and 2+ save..
It seems to me Cents with prescience will reliably kill a riptide even with the nova-charge 3++

So a 300 point unit to kill a riptide?

Not only, they are the answer to everything from riptides to crisis suits and broadsides. With prescience they can even be used as anti-air semi reliably
