So, I picked up the Deathstorm box and modeled all the models per the box set and formations. I've never actually played a match and I'm getting a friend into 40k as well. Everything is making sense except the warriors assault phase. I understand the warrior with the LW/BS would have the chance to go first. But what about the others with Bone swords, rending claws, and scything talons? Do I roll seperate per warrior? Then you have swords/talons or rending/talons, are the dice rolls all the special rules?

I've modeled up all kinds. I have about 1500 pts Tyranids and 1000 pts Blood Angels. I've also done a bunch of magnetizing. But I have yet to play and actual game. Any insight would be appreciated.

Yup, you'd go down the initiative line, so since the Lash Whip one goes first, roll his attacks, then roll wounds, then they roll saves. Then move down the line, and I think Warriors are I4? so they'd hit at the same time as any models with Initiative 4.

You'd also want to roll each weapon time separate, to make sure he gets/doesn't get saves from weapons with certain AP or Rending.

Might want to check on how those Hive Warriors are modeled, as if I remember correctly one has Scything Talons/Venom Cannon, one has Scything Talons/Boneswords, and one has Bonesword + Whip/Rending Claws...

In any event, you will want to roll different weapons separately in order to resolve their unique effects, but remember that you can only use one set of weapons at a time (i.e. either swing at I7 with the Lash Whip/Bonesword weapon set or swing at I4 with the Rending Claws). The Scything Talons can be more or less ignored as their sole function is to add a bonus attack for having two weapons.

I think you're right Strat, about one of them having both LW/BS and rending claws. I might have changed that. In my mind they provide the same (although different) effect. I don't want to get bogged down having to roll each model unless it's to my advantage.

I currently have three modeled toward CC and three shooty. One of shooty has the Prime add-ons in case I actually use him.

I also have three new in the box. Should I do 2:1 shooty or CC?

Really hard to say, it would depend chiefly on what the rest of your list looks like. Melee warriors will do better in an aggressive list with a bunch of melee threats to advance alongside while shooty warriors can be dropped into more or less any list arch-type as extra synapse and backfield guards.

Might want to try a compromise with Devourers + Rending Claws. Keeps them cheap while being able to do a bit of both.

Yeah, I think I'd look at Warriors, x3, Strangle Cannon, Rending Claws x2...110 and pretty decent as TAC, while adding in some CC. If you don't want a Cannon, then take a long look at Flesh Hooks, and Scything Talons.
