Hi, I"m fairly new to W40k and am putting together an army list for the first time, mostly to just play with friends rather than any tournaments. I'd love a second look from people to see if there are any big things I'm missing or a glaring oversight. Thanks!

HQ
1 Farseer
1 Warlock with Singing Spear (attached to Scorpions)

Troops
2 units of 3 jetbikes each

Elite
8 Striking Scorpions with exarch and power claw, to infiltrate/outflank in Wave Serpent
7 Fire Dragons with exarch w/ firepike & fast shot in Wave Serpent

Fast Attack
7 Warp Spiders, no upgrades, held for deep strike

Heavy Support
3 War Walkers w/scatter lasers and starcannons
1 Wraithknight with suncannon & scattershield, 1 scatter laser

Dedicated Transports
2 Wave Serpents w/Bright Lance

Warlocks can't join Scorpions, Spiders don't need to Deep Strike, it just takes away from their mobility because of how much distance they can cover normally and the risk of them not getting in till turn 3 or 4 is there. Fire Dragons don't need a Fire Pike since the unit is all going to be within Melta range if things go well and frankly that's WAY too much Melta. You don't need that many shots and it eats up points. Swap the Bright Lances on the Walkers and the Scatter Lasers on the Serpents. And the standard Holofield upgrade is a must have. You should net more kills that way. Twin Bright Lance on each Walker is much better. More shots and Twin Linking it is not better than just rolling twice anyway but double success is more shots.

Playing suggestion, try to deploy the Scorpions Turn 1 in some ruins close to the enemy. They can't charge Turn 1 anyway so may as well get that 12" closer and wait to charge because of disembarking too. Of course, if the terrain allows for such a move.

Your warlock has no place in this list unless you give him a jetbike so he can join a unit of jetbikes. Otherwise he'll have to footslot alone since he can't join the scorpions.

When I run Striking Scorpions, I deploy them without the Wave Serpent. They have decent armour saves and can hide in terrain. Just infiltrate them in terrain and use Move Through Cover and Fleet to get where you're going. This will free up the Wave Serpent from transporting duties so it can shoot from a safe range.

For casual games, I love running Dark Reapers fully kitted out. They work great for killing tanks and infantry alike and can move and shoot. You might fit a unit in by dropping the warlock and the scorpion's Wave Serpent. Dropping a Wave Serpent is usually heresy but it's a casual list so do what you like.
