How do salvo weapons and vehicles work? The new gauss flayer array is salvo 5/10. Does that mean if the vehicle moves at all they only fire 5 shots or if it moves combat speed it fires 5 shots? Seeing as vehicles ignore the heavy rules about moving and shooting Im a little confused about how it would work with the salvo rules.

Vehicles are relentess, so you will always fire at the full 10 shot profile.

Relentless works on Heavy, Salvo and Ordnance after you moved.
And it includes Rapid Fire if you are about to charge.

Are there any non-vehicles that use the Gauss Flayer Array? If not... why did GW make it a Salvo weapon in the first place?

No. Its on the Ghost and Doomsday Arks exclusively.

Probably because 1, they needed more weapons with the salvo profile to validate its existence and 2, to keep the possibility of adding it to a non-vehicle unit later on, while thinking salvo would fit these potential models.

Actually it makes kind of sort of sense to make it a Salvo weapon that's 5/10 and never has.. wait no it doesn't.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

This or there may have been a non vehicle unit with that weapon that got cut from the codex during development or there may be a psychic power in the works some where that removes relentless from units.

I think it's because it makes it one weapon with one profile, rather than two banks of 5 rapid firing weapons. It was expedience that ended up boosting the firepower over 12" purely as a side effect of making a cleaner looking weapon entry.

Because Salvo is like a sort of super-Rapid Fire according to the BRB.
It makes the Ghost Ark 75% more awesome.

I said that when we first saw it, but I imagine their thought process was that Salvo better represents the "idea" of 5 rapid firing Gauss weapons, even if it doesn't function the same.

Someone pointed out t hat the last necron codex had a lot of stuff that made no sense until 6th dropped. I mean, nigh scythes as just skimmers were bleh.

So 8th very well might be around the corner. Maybe we will see something where salvo can only be fired at half if they jink?
