I purchased a bundle of frames from Ebay, and they've arrived today to reveal something rather peculiar.
I've noticed that some of the frames have a different colour to them, more of a pale grey, and one of them is missing the Copyright GW bit.
The quality seems alright, but this is obviously not on. What's the best way to deal with this issue?
The seller did send me all the stuff I expected, but I'm unsure how to react to obviously recast frames
I'm not sure whether it's suitable to post the Seller's account here, so I'll leave it out for the moment

Which kit are we talking about.. colour difference might be the mark of an older kit rather than recast.. and can't remember if all the kits have always religiously had a GW embossed mark on them.. the older ones at least.

Pics? If they're plastic, it's really unlikely they are recast. Resin, on the other hand...

Yeah, I'm assuming with frames he is referring to plastic.. if its resin sprues, much more likely.

What was the model?
Some of the models that have been around forever were originally made with a noticeably paler grey plastic.
dunno about the copyright stamp...
unless if it was part of a battleforce that had the large 2-part sprues. I think the copyright is only on one half...

There are two, both Space Marine ones. It's odd, because one has the same copyright as the normal-coloured one, and the other doesn't.
I will grab pics in a bit

If they were some of the Rogue Trader Marines some of the sprues were Green as well Tan.

Yeah, I've had green, dark blue and tan RTB001 SM.

Comes from the time they didn't make their own plastics, they subcontracted it out to a third party (I think it was renedra).

They got them made in whatever coloured plastic the subcontractor had cued up in the machine at the time (made it cheaper).

Do people do recasts of plastic though? I've wondered the same.

I got a set of Centurions off ebay a while after they released, and they really struck me as off in some way. They didn't want to glue together well, and the sprues left nasty NASTY scars on the pieces when I cut them off, and they didn't file very well either.

I used a plastic cement on them, and the glue just kind of sat between pieces and didn't fuse anything together like how things usually occur. That may have just been old glue though

I got them for a good price, but I've always wondered if someone had knocked off the sprues and duped me into buying them.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Absolutely.

Often the discount isn't as deep, to the point where buying online from a discounter is only fractionally more expensive, but they're absolutely out there.

Yea, all the recasts of plastic I have seen are simply plastic models recast in resin.

So its still dirt cheap, just you are getting resin instead of plastic models.

I've gotten two Chaos Terminator Lord kits, one I bought on its own, brand new in box, and the other one came in a Chaos Attack Force box. The kits are exactly the same, but the color of the plastic was a darker gray on one of them. Point being, it's nothing to worry about. I've seen it, too.

As an aside, that Chaos Terminator Lord kit is easily one of the best plastic kits GW makes. Tons of bits (including left and right handed lightning claws, and a powerfist that's giving the finger), you can make it a Lord or a Sorcerer, a really impressive scenic element for the base, and a combat/spell familiar model, as well.

Its possible that its still an original even though the plastic is a slightly different shade, also, as already stated, there were different coloured kits made in different parts of the world at one point.
I would not worry, I have never came across a recast of a plastic mini, that has been recast in plastic, they are normally recast in resin.

Absolutely no freakin' way is someone recasting whole sprues in hard plastic.

Yerp its also entirely possible that its an older kit that got re-cut with additional GW Trademark slathered all over it.

As long as its plastic there is nothing at all to worry or complain about.

If they're recasting the sprue, why not recast the trademark text, too?
I'd assume it is the secondary sprue of a kit, and the main sprue would have the trademark detail.

Yah that sounds like a resin recast. Some plastic kits can be recasted at a fraction of the normal mark up in plastic.

I've seen pretty good recast of the imperial knight sell for $40 usd a pop.

I've been playing chaos for a while now, and the first models I bought were a much paler plastic than my recent purchases. I've even had the basic CSM box where the upgrade sprue was considerably darker than the other sprues. I'd say they're probably fine. My bits box has different colors of grey in it, and I always buy everything legit.
