I found an overcoat that offers a cool rainbow effect on any background all ready applied.

Prismatic Holographic paint by Stardust colors out of France.

I wanted to find something that I could overcoat new Harlequin Jet Bikes and other potential Harly vehicles in.

There is You Tube video, says it transparent, goes over any paint job for the effect.

I emailed the co to see if it will work on models rather than automobiles and it is not crazy expensive.

Has anyone had any experience with this or a similiar paint that would give a rainbow effect on a paint job?

Thanks.

Thats going to be some sort of metal flake or pearl suspended within lacquer. Normally you want a 1.8mm hvlp spraygun nozzle to be spraying those well.
Do they do it in an aerosol? Because I cant see most airbrushes doing it well ~ unless the flake size is teenyweeny.

- if you were thinking of brushing it on, I have my doubts that it will result in the desired effect. Theres a knack to spraying them right to get the sparkle right across the whole item a brush just cant do that kind of thing. By all means try though (I'd really enjoy seeing it work)

Thanks for the tips I appreciate it. Your comments compelled me to further research. I just got an airbrush and have not used it so want to make an informed decision.

I went back to the Stardust Colors website and it is available for both aerosol and for automotive airbrushing. It boasts 35 microns and sounds very small flake but I don't know... I'm a complete novice about this.

This product though seems like overkill. Conversion to pounds makes one can approx 70 USD.

Is there a similar product specifically for models?

Basically for Harlequin bikes and vehicles I plan a black and white diamond theme and wanted to finish it with a prismatic overcoat for a shifting rainbow effect.

Check out airbrush paint ranges like Auto-Air, Wicked etc. they might have something suitable in smaller bottle sizes. Usually with flakes they indicate the minimum nozzle size, smaller nozzle = smaller flake.

The problem with these paints, though, is that they often give you a grainy effect up close. They're usually meant for larger applications like cars or RC cars.

That being said, I noticed Spaz Stix the RC car paint manufacturer makes some holographic spray stuff. You could also search for 'holographic flake' and mix it in your airbrush medium.
