So, tomorrow, my GF and I will be having our weekly 40k matchup. She and I are both interested to see how she'll do with a list build to beat my tl devourer flyrant list.
So what could Space Marines bring for 500 points?

Whats your list? And for real if you say two flyrants and two mucolids you are not a nice person

2 stalkers, a whirlwind 2 scouts squads in landspeeder storms and a no frills master of the forge. should be about 500

Running flyrants at 500pts is a bit of a "that guy" move in my opinion.

I'd say run a Librarian, 2 squads of scouts with snipers and camo and 2 storm talons with typhoon missile launchers.

Its bound, and if she hides her scouts well enough they'll survive long enough for the Storm Talons to arrive and shoot your flyrants out the sky.

Alternatively she can write a genuine list and play maelstrom. Then when you stop zooming to take an objective she can shoot you down.

I don't think that 1 flyrant is too waac. Competitive? definitely, but I think that even small scale lists are usually designed to deal with fliers.

I haven't play my marines in a long time, especially at low points. but if you walked up to me and asked if I wanted to play against your 500 point Flyrant list this is probably what I'd bring. if the math I did in my head is correct its 499 points.

But in all seriousness, nids aren't very good in 500 point games because they really do struggle without their big bugs, but bringing a flyrant in a 500 point game is somewhat cheese, but really, I would recommend something just as cheese, but really the biggest problem for her would be the flyrant, and really, with some clever list tailoring is not a problem, and from rough calculations in my head, I have come up with the following list

HQ -

Librarian - 90
-Mastery lvl 2
-force sword

Troops -
Tactical squad- 180
-10 men
-SGT has a combi-flamer
-flamer
-drop pod

Scouts- 70
-sniper rifles
-camo cloaks

Heavy Support
-Stalker-75
-Stalker-75

500 Points

Basically, the idea is to eliminate all of the threats turn 1 or 2, and at that point, the space marines win by default.

If your GF go's first (witch she should) she can use the stalkers to rain death onto the flyrant and hopefully ground him. The tacticals drop down combat squaded in the pod to hurt the zoanethroape and venomthroape, the flamers go for the venoomthroape and the normal marines try to widdle some wounds off the zoanethroape.
The librarian is only there for denial power so the stalkers don't get destroyed by warp-lance, and will join the scouts for a better leadership. The scouts either hurt the zoanethrope or venomthroape depending on witch one is stil alive near the end of the shooting phase. And telepethy on the libby wouldn't hurt.

If your GF goes second, it won't go so well, she won't be tabled, but still hurt, and you will be able to destroy alot of the main threats. But she NEEDS to deny warp lance (but it is a dice game, so sh*t happens).

PS: make sure she deploys the backs of the stalkers to the table edge, so your flyrant can't destroy once back armour.

That entire strategy relies on his gf going first. Also the tyrant starts off on the ground so hopefully she can survive turn one.

Forget the SM anti air options in the book, they are awful.

Look to forgeworld and get a fireraptor. It will not only take air supremacy off of your flyrant, but will also shred your infantry. Let her fight cheese with cheese.

I would say go iron hands:

Librarian

Tac squad x5 + Rhino
Tac squad x5 + Rhino

Fire raptor

That would give her a good chance imo.

Without going heavy on the anti-Tyranid elements, here's a more conservative approach:

HQ:
Librarian, ML2 with The Primarch's Wrath and Auspex

Troops:
10x Tactical Squad w/ Heavy bolter and Plasma gun
Razorback w/ Heavy flamer

10x Tactical Squad w/ Heavy bolter and Plasma gun

She can choose to combat squad and support an aggressive Razorback, or have it drive up alone to roast Termagants while the specialized weapons provide long-range supporting fire that will reduce the effect of the Venomthrope (as well as the Jink from the Flyrant) once they get close enough to the Librarian.

At 500pts I'd say it is, I start giving my armies AA at 750 and although i don't expect to see flyers i'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

WIth the list you've got she won't have much trouble with the zoanthrope and gaunts if she goes MSU and then she should win on points cause your tyrant won't be able to kill all of them
