Subject: Adeptus Mechanicus Count As Army?

Hey everyone,
I was thinking of trying an adeptus mechanicus army, however I am not a large fan of forgeworld rules, what are your thoughts on converting the army into a "counts as" necrons army? Is there a better option?
Thanks,

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

I have had similar thoughts towards doing a Necron counts-as force. I want to do a force using primarily immortals with the Tesla carbines.

You say that I am crazy. I say that you are right! |

Funny you should mention that, I have 40 new Mechanicus Tech-Thrall models in front of me and I am considering the same thing. I have 20 with the Lazlocks and 20 with the Mitralocks.
Necrons would work, but I am wondering if an Imperial Guard army would be good too. What about Tau? The Tech-thralls could be fire warrors and the Thallax be the crises suits. The Kiros tanks could be hammer head tanks, hum this could work.

I see... I was thinking Necrons for the reanimation protocols... but I do like the tau idea as well

I am torn, myself, I am going to look at both books and think about it. I have a while as I paint my Thralls and save up for my next purchase. (Probably 9 Thallaxs or Myrmidon Destructors)
But the Tau idea has a lot of easy parallels.
Tech Thralls = Fire warriors
Thallax = Crises Suits
Servo Skulls = Drones
Kiros tanks = Hammer head tanks
Myrmidon Destrouctors = Broadside Suits

Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

I've toyed with using Chaos or Grey Knights as AdMech units.
With chaos you can use Defilers and Forgefeinds as exotic war droids/tanks (check out some of the Legio Cybernetica conversions out there). You can also use Cultists as Skitarri or Tech Gaurd units, Obliterators and Mutilators as heavy combat servitors, and different cult troops as specialist weapon squads (i.e. Thousand Sons as Volkite squads, ect.).
Grey Knights or Inquisition can be used in conjunction with other Imperial codices to make a pretty neat list too. Dreadknights also make for cool Legio Cybernetica droids, and SM scouts or IG vets more faithfully represent Skitarri.
Just my 2 cents.

Been Around the Block

I spotted these Iron Brotherhood minis a while back and thought that they had quite a Mechanicum look to them - at least how they used to be depicted back in the RT days.
Spoilers as the pics are quite big.
