Hi all, dakka virgin here with my first thread. Still got the training wheels on, so apologies if this is the same as another thread, but couldn't find anything.

I've recently started magnetising my models to get the most out of the boxes, but have found that some arms already have a hole behind the shoulder that is too big to take a 2mm magnet. I have bought some liquid green stuff with the intention of filling in the these holes and then when fully set, drilling into them and gluing the magnet as normal.

I wanted to check if anyone had drilled into green stuff (from liquid) and whether it's strong enough to do so and then hold the magnet in place?

Why not use normal green stuff and stick the magnet in while it's still soft?

Seconded. You have to put a million layers of lgs into a hole bigger than a fraction of a mm anyways

Good call. I'll see if I can get my hands on some. There are no GW stores out here though, only hobby shops. So might have to give it a bash with the liquid variety if they don't have any.

The liquid GS won't take drilling; it's too flaky. It sands down reasonably well, but you can crumble it pretty easily if you try to poke holes in it.

Hmm. I wonder if I can liberally cover all but the front of the magnet with the lgs and then put in the oversized hole for it to set.

Green Stuff is not GW exclusive. Every hobby store/webshop should have some.

I recommend scraping the idea of LGS. It shrinks and it's not strong. You fill a hole and it takes ages to dry and shrinks so you are left with a hole much the same size as you started with. LGS is more of a thick paint than it is a filler, I think GW released it in response to finecast which often came with tons of tiny little holes.

Epoxy putties like greenstuff/kneadatite, milliput and so on do not shrink and are considerably tougher.
