Do necrons still use/have the technology for biotransference? Or are all of the 60+ million years old?

Yes, they're all that old. There are no more flesh and blood Necrontyr.

I'm sure they still have the technology, and actually some are trying to figure out how to reverse the process(and find suitable flesh bodies from among the various sentient races)

There is a slight chance that 'some' Necrontyr avoided biotransference, some even fought against it. As to whether they would still be around after 60 million years is another matter entirely. The Necrons themselves managed to avoid most of the intervening 60 million years by being in stasis, so most of them are probably, at most, thousands of years old, many probably hundreds. maybe more since we don't really know how long the war to destroy the old ones, and then the C'tan took after biotransference.

As to whether the technology is still around, almost certainly. whether it is used or not is again, another matter entirely. Reversing it is proving to be tricky unfortunately.

As to why it is needed, i guess lower ranks could simply have their identities copied, they are barely sentient as it is. Higher ranks would simply download into another body if theirs was too badly damaged to self repair, and there is the tricky question of just how many Necrons would want to go back, at least those who can still think for themselves.

Shred City.

In the end, it's a large galaxy. There's a lot of room for the GW writers to come up with a single planet/moon of them who happened to stay alive/keep a low profile for the past long, long while.

Unlikely though. 60m years is mental, a race that intelligent that didn't expand or make its presence known somehow wouldn't make sense. They'd have to brainstorm a really good reason.

Every Necron you see, that is, the ones that used to be people, are all unimaginably ancient. Things like Scarabs are just machines, and maybe built last week... but the Warriors, Deathmarks, Immortals, Destroyers, Flayed Ones, etc are all 60+ million years old, yes,

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Well no, but they all repair themselves, or can probably be repaired after the battle If their are animation Protocols don't work for whatever reason.

True, they can repair themselves but still, this makes them seem a bit like the Eldar (the dying race thing). Interesting....

Thats right - they have a huge but finite population - they have suffered losses of entire Tomb Worlds and their populations

Under the 3rd edition codex, the technology for Biotransference was... glitchy, but still workable. It's the only reason I can think of for why Pariahs, who are all new converts, couldn't self-repair.

Note: When a Warrior or similar goes down and stays down, because of the Reanimation Protocol malfunctioning, it is 'phased" back to the barrack areas of the tombs, to be restored to their former glory, though the trapped Necrontyr soul usually takes damage, and is sometimes completely lost.

This means that, while the amount of Necrons are finite, they almost never take causilities, as long as the Tombs are function... Which is why the Inquisition order Marines to bomb the places with plasma bombs from the center, blowing them up in the process...

Yes they still have the technology for it.

On the Illuminor Szeraz page on the Necron codex it says "The C'tan might have provided the knowledge for biotranference, but it was Szeras who made it reality".

Szeras not only still has knowledge of it, but he is continuing his research into so he can discover "the path to ultimate evolution" so he can turn himself into a God.

It's all right there in the codex.

If the biotranference methods are still used, I'm not sure. But the tech and know-how is still there.

No there aren't.

There have been hints that Necrons can basically put the consciousness of beings from other races into necrodermis shells and turn them into Necron warriors, but being GW, this was never made certain or not.

It is almost impossible to actually destroy a necron. If the body is too damaged for the innate repair systems it simply phases out and returns to the Tomb World for repair.

You have to damage a necron to the point where it cannot phase out AND you have to prevent the body from getting picked up by scarabs. Not impossible but almost.

As mentioned - the best way is to destroy the Tomb Worlds and / or the leaders - also if you completely vapourise a Necron its gone...............
