I... actually don't know. Help?

I quote the Rulebook:

You can include models from any number of different Factions (pg 118) in the same army if you wish.

Does that mean that I can have more than 1 allied detachment? Awesome!

Yes. A Battle-forged army consists of any number of Detatchments, in any combination (how long have we been in 7th now? I still can't spell Detachments).

As long as each Allied Detatchment doesn't share the Faction of your Primary Detachment, you're fine. Also remember that you can also take an "allied" CAD (Combined Arms Detachment) or any Codex-specific Detachment (such as a Nemesis Strike Force) in addition to your Primary.

Indeed.

Legal list:

CAD Dark Eldar (Warlord comes from here, so it's your Primary Detachment)
CAD Haemunculus Covens
Allied Necrons
Allied Tyranids
Nemesis Strike Force Formation

Illegal list:

CAD Eldar (Warlord comes from here, so it's your Primary Detachment)
Allied Eldar (same faction of your Primary Detachment. Must use an Eldar CAD or Formation)
CAD Necrons
Allied Space Marines
Nemesis Sitrke Force Formation

ally != Allied Detachment

One comment VS. If you take a CAD from Haemunculus Covens it is just regular Dark Eldar. To benefit from the HC stuff you have to either take the Covenite Coterie Detachment, or one of hte Formations.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

This is a excellent guide. It's also worth noting that the illegal list would become legal if your Primary detachment was the Necron CAD. There is nothing stopping you have a CAD and Allied Detachment of the same faction, providing that the CAD is not your Primary.

Thanks!

Another worthy note: Space Marines can have Allied Detachments from Space Marines, as long as the Chapter Tactics between them are different.

Legal:
CAD SM (CT: Salamanders) (Primary)
Allied Detach SM (CT: Raven Guard)
CAD SM (CT: Ultramarines)
CAD Eldar
Allied Detach Astra Militarum
Stormwing Formation

Illegal:
CAD SM (CT: Salamanders) (Primary)
Allied Detach SM (CT: Salamanders)
CAD SM (CT: Ultramarines)
CAD Eldar
Allied Detach Astra Militarum
Stormwing Formation

Ah yes, true. A bad example I used, then.
