I am new to csm and have made squad of marines with the nurgle mark and banner. My question is, is it frowned upon if i don't paint my army with nurgle type color schemes. Because frankly i'm just not a fan of that sickly green color.

They're your models and you can paint them any color you want.

To go a bit more in depth with the fluff, the popular Plague Marines are Death Guard, but Death Guard are not the only Plague Marines. They're the remains of a Legion but so are Blood Angels and Dark Angels, but Flesh Tearers and Angels of Absolution are options to paint up those armies too. The Purge is an example of Plague Marines that aren't Death Guard. Same rules, same place on the table, same place in the fluff, but personalized. A Warband can have whatever backstory you like to explain why the Plague Marines are the color of your choosing.

Thank you for the reply. Well then it looks like the next step is to find a color scheme I like for my marines.

Yeah, plague marines may be green, but not everyone devoted to nurgle is. For example, you have The Cleaved:

As well as Lords of Decay. A lot of people don't know that white is also a traditional color of nurgle in addition to green. Likewise you have the Apostles of Contagion which are a brown/brass color. And the nurgle wing of the Black Legion wears Black Legion colors.

Nurgle does not require his grandchildren to paint themselves green.

Your one-stop website for batreps, articles, and assorted goodies about the men of Folera: Foleran First Imperial Archives. Read Dakka's favorite narrative battle report series The Hand of the King. Also, check out my commission work, and my terrain.

If it's the color of rust or mold or decay (which can include fungi too since they're present when things are being broken down) it's fair game. And that covers colors well outside of green.

Maybe look on Google Images for some ideas and have fun picking out your favorite horrible thing.

Your mention of the black legion interests me. Might go with that

You've also got Warp Ghosts, who have gotten a bit of love from ForgeWorld recently in IA13

http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Warp_Ghosts

You also have parts of the Black Legion who worship Nurgle, like

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Bringers_of_Decay

Then the more random ones, like the

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/The_Purge

You can always make your own Warband as well, like a warband of corrupted UMs who beseeched Papa Nurgle (instead of Papa Smurf) for aid against Space Syphilis.

Yeah, I've done this.

Don't do this.

You could also go with the Death Guards pre heresy scheme:

Or even the Unification era Dusk Raiders (pre Mortarion DG) scheme:

I fail to see the harm, but I guess other people have weaker stomachs for that sort of thing.

Two words.

Necrotising fasciitis.

Trust me, I've seen (and smelled) things that would make your toes curl, my stomach is plenty strong enough.

I was mainly joking, but without knowing the OP's age, etc, it may actually not be the best idea to advise them to go off and seek out imagery of people with bits hanging off and being eaten away.

I was thinking more of pictures of fungi, mold and rust, but that's a good point.

That would be harmless enough, I'm sure.

I did some research when working on my GUO, and while it was undoubtedly informative, there is nothing people won't Instagram it seems!

Want to know something worse.

Google 'degloving'.

Go ahead I'll wait.

As for the OP, nurgle armies tend to have a bit of green in them. However, my marines are red. Because they are an offshot Chapter from the Word Bearers, one more devoted to Nurgle than the other gods.

I've been watching Hannibal this weekend, some grim stuff there, degloving being one of them. My girlfriend looked a little green...

It's also why you have to walk with elderly patients in care homes carefully, I learnt in my training when I made tea for them in a dementia home. Their skin isn't as strong and if they fall and you try and grab them...

For some reason that's always stuck in my mind haha.
