On BOLS, I saw an interesting comment that the weapons on a flyer inherit skyfire from the Scythe.
This seems correct as the Tesla Destructor is granted Skyfire as it is our primary weapon against fliers.

It was interesting that, if this is the case, then FMC could be targeted by the Deathray which is a blast.

It appears that the 'Hard to Hit' rule in the FMC unit description does not include the "...Template and Blast weapons.....cannot hit zooming flyers." sentence that is included in the flyers unit description (See BRB FMC pg 69 and Flyers pg 84).
The FMC rule only requires the the 'skyfire' rule be present on the weapon to be able to hit at full BS.

I understand that this will almost never actually occur but it was an interesting observation for Necron players facing Nids.

All flyers have Skyfire, you can elect to use the Doom Scythe and Skyfire the new variant of Death Ray at a FMC.

This means you can instantly kill a crone with your blast.

Nothing new here!

A slight correction: All Flyers can CHOOSE to have Skyfire and must do so at the start of the Shooting Phase. They do not HAVE the rule automatically.

This is important because say you have 2 or more Flyers and declare they all while Skyfire this turn, then after the first one shoots it actually kills what you thought you would need all your flyers shooting to kill.
The remaining Flyers now must Snapshoot at any ground targets that may be in range.

The converse is also true, You cannot mid way through the Shooting phase decide Skyfire because a Flyer is the now the only viable target of your flyer.

Whya player would declare both flyers will skyfire when he needs to do that at each unit's activation? The first flyer will move, have it declared skyfire or not ad then shoot. Only then you'd be able to activate the second flyer and do the same.

I though the same, but just checked and 40knoob is indeed correct. It seems that you must declare Skyfire for flyers 'at the start of the shooting phase' rather than when you activate the unit.

Just a strategic layer - Its just like a skyfire tax, instead of declaring one by one and getting a lucky kill shot, freeing your others to not declare Skyfire, you declare them all at once then the penalty of a lucky shot is snap shooting at ground targets.

But, I have seen many people not declare until each unit is 'activated'.

It's my codex and I'll cry If I want to.

Tactical objectives are fantastic

So our Death Rays can now hit flying units?

No as Flyers cannot be targeted with blast weapons, regardless of them having sky fire or not.

Flyers cannot be targeted with blast weapons, FMC can be targeted with blast weapons if the blast weapon has skyfire.

so you can now shoot flying DPs and tyrants etc.

For FMCS only that is true unless you play at most major tournaments which enforce the Zooming Flyers rule on FMCs.

Oh. Then I owe 40k-noob an apology.

That helps balancing flyers a bit.

many tournaments also rule ICs without infiltrate can join infiltrating units, which is specifically disallowed in the rules.

among other things, it is worthwhile to know what tournaments use for house rules but in the end they are not always the actual rules of the game but modifications to the rules as written,

ITC (biggest tourny community in my mind) definitely treats them as Zooming Flyers, however, in friendly games I would still use blasts on them.

Which is just strange.
The FMC's hard to hit rule is written very differently to the Flyers. It's clearly not a typo or copy/paste mistake, it's a very different rule.

Yeap, we play/interpret as FMC 's can be hit with skyfire blasts as well.

I play Nids and I think they can be hit w/ skyfire blasts with the way the FMC rules are written.
