I had a really fun game of 40k the other day with my friend, Eldar vs GK, but as per usual it brought up a scenario or two that aren't fully covered in the rule book.

He rolled for vortex of doom on one of his squads, and promptly threw it at my WS. I passed my jink save, but as the vortex stays in play, it doesn't really coevr what should happen. What we did was leave the template centered on the WS but it took no damage, the vortex then moved away the next turn, Is that how you would have played it?

Another psychich power query, can't rember the name of the power, but if anything assaulted his unit, it would class all terrain as difficult terrain. My Avatar is a MC which ignores difficult terrain, so does he count open terrain for exaple as difficult, which he promptly ignores, or does codex trump rulebook and he has to roll?

Last query was in regards to an assault and positioning of models on ladders. His guys were 1" away from a building ledge, I had rolled the charge distance, but it was a tight squeeze fitting the Avatar onto the building. my oponent let me move his models slightly back in the spirit of fair play so that the assault could take place. I think we were poised 10 v 7 in VP at this point, so if I'd have wiped the squad out and claimed the objective then I'd have swung it back in my favour...........................as it turns out I only killed 4 out of the 6 interceptors, so lost the game.

It's the first game of 7th ed we've really played to be honest and I quite enjoyed it. It'd be good to get those rules cleared up, just in case the scenario pops up again.

You do realize that VD is a Str D weapon, and if he rolled a 6 then you get no saves and take 6+d6 HP. so min of 7 HP gone.

Jink would have only worked against any result but a 6.

As per the Vortex special rule (p174) you scatter the marker at the start of the turn, but only units under it's new position take hits, not anyone previously covered, or anyone "passed over" by the marker.

The power changes the open ground to difficult, which the Avatar then is not slowed by (MTC, p168), but note that the Avatar would have to attack at Initiative 1 as he does not have assault grenades (Charging Through Difficult Terrain, p47, third paragraph).

I think the main query with vortex was if I got cover save against blast weapons. He didn't roll a 6 thank God!

Anyone, any thoughts on the assault. Should I have been allowed, or is it tough if model doesn't fit on

Ah, sorry, i missed the last question.

The Avatar could not have declared a charge which he could not have completed. As he could not fit in B2B contact, he was technically ineligible for a charge.

Yes, you get a cover save against blast weapons. Vortexes use the Barrage rules for wound allocation, and I assume (never had enough interest to dissect it) that covers cover as well, so you wouldn't get 'obscured' cover saves most of the time, but cover saves from 'area terrain' and Jink are still valid.
