Hi All

I recently put up an ork list as I am thinking of getting into them as a secondary army. Here is another one I came up with which takes a very different direction. Would appreciate C&C. FYI I am using the standard combined arms detachment.

HQ
Painboy
Big Mek - Mega Armour, KFF, Kustom Mega Blasta, Da Lucky Stikk

Elite
Meganobz x 6 - Killsaws x 12, Battlewagon w/ Boarding Plank, Extra Armour, Grot Riggers, Kannon, Reinforced Ram, Rokkit Launchas x 2

Troops
Boyz x 10 - Sluggas and Choppas, Boss Nob w/ Claw & Pole, Trukk w/ Boarding plank.
Boyz x 10 - Sluggas and Choppas, Boss Nob w/ Claw & Pole, Trukk w/ Boarding plank.

Fast Attack
Warbikers x 6 - Boss Nob w/ Claw & Pole
Warbikers x 6 - Boss Nob w/ Claw & Pole

Lord of War
Ghazghkull Thraka - Warlord, Attack Squig

So yeah, concept is pretty simple. Run at peoples faces and punch them off. Ghaz, Meganobz, Painboy and Big Mek will be a big fat deathstar to throw at something big. Everything else can support where needed. I know flyers will probably be a weakness but that's fine.

One alteration I had at one point was dropping the Big Mek and half the bikers and having a KFF Morkanaut, let me know if you think that would be better.

playing devils advocate if I was opposing you I would start by running my bikers into your battlewagon as soon as possible. my Lootas would pop a trukk each turn and leave the boyz to footslog. my morkanaut would focus fire your bikers or anyone who got blown out of a vehicle. honestly after turn 2 the majority of your force would be disembarked from losing their vehicles. Leaving your bikers as the only threat to me.

*Side Note: Kustom Mega Blasta's look cool on paper but think about it, they have a 1/3rd chance to hit and a 1/6 chance to cause a self inflicted wound. even with a lucky stikk your better off spending those points elsewhere.

I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you mess with me, I'll kill you all

KMB on the big mek is free with mega armour, but I take your point I can just as easily give him a TL shoota.

How would this list be more threatening to you then? More threats which are not in vehicles or something that can provide supporting fire? I would love to field some Mek guns but bugger paying £30 for an 18 point model.

Im not saying your list isn't threatening, I am just theorizing how I would handle it and the dice going in my favor. Im considered a "Weird Boy" in most ork communities because I dislike Mega Armor and MegaNobz. I have found that Morkanauts are great at Drawing fire, and that Lootas tend to scare armies into focusing on them. I share your opinion on Mek gunz, I would love to get 5 of them to field in a battery but I know I dont have $200+ to spend on 90pts worth of Models.

Yeah I quite like mega armour I have to say. It's purely that I think they look awesome more than their performance on the field. When I first started this list I originally had the deathstar made up with normal Nobs with Big Choppas.

If you're going for a Ghaz based deathstar you should consider swapping the Painboy for Mad Doc Grotsnik, he's 110 points more expensive but makes the unit Fearless and confers Rampage for +D3 attacks when outnumbered in combat. You could make the points up by removing one Meganob, the Killsaws and the Attack Squig/Kannon.

Orks rely on two things to really be victorious: numbers and matched speed. With half your army being so fast and then almost half your points in one unit, you are going to lose a lot more than you win. Meganobs are pretty cool, but they work best as small, less menacing units. With so much of your force in one blob, your opponent is guarenteed to do anything in their power to pop your BW in one go, leaving your MANZ to just kind waddle after. Bikers are nasty, but they slam into a wall when heavy flamers or power swords get brought into the equation. My recommendation would be todrop ghazzy from this list (hes pretty sweet, but not as valuable as two warbosses at this point value). Trukks are okay, but with Ramshackle getting relegated to Rules I Remember Fondly, they are destroyed too often and too easily. So, spam them! Units of 3 MANZ in one or two is pretty solid, your opponent is forced to choose between stopping a small unit of scary things or a bigger unit of slightly less scary, but scoring, guys. Another thing to look at is a Big Mek on a bike with a KFF.

Orks are bullies, not elites. Use those MANZ on vehicles(not walkers) and base infantry. They have twio wounds, but at t4 with no ++ save Monstrous creatures and walkers arent worth the points and will double your whole squad out before you even swing, use things like blobs of boys for them.

Note: Im not saying drop bikes. They are nefarious. Zhadsnark is the boss, and is way better than Ghaz IMHO.. Just heavy flamers and power swords kill them fast, and they dont have the bodies to absorb the inevitable losses. Use them to bully either basic troops or non-walker vehicles.
