Personal Fluff for my Necron Army

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

When the Nihilakh Dynasty prepared for the Great Sleep, they locked away their vast treasure hoards and priceless artifacts in great Vaultworlds.
Each Vaultworld was a specialized Tombworld in its own right with a standing army and extremely formidable defences. Unique to these Vaultworlds were colossal teleportation cores that allow them to displace themselves, up to a maximum range of 10Ly, in order to protect their riches.

The 5th Vaultworld awakens.

Upon awakening, Vargard Hakodes looked out at the Galaxy and wept; a massive hole in reality spewing forth countless horrors, Necron worlds crawling with disgusting animals and the great Necron Dynasties themselves made weak by time and fate. His depression morphed into rage, anger at the Overlords, at the Silent King and at the Galaxy for what they did to the Necron Species. He wanted to destroy everything and for a while he considered the merits of that idea but then he realized that would be a futile goal. He eventually came to a conclusion which he believed to be undeniable;
This Galaxy is beyond restoration.

He decided that it was time to up and leave but he would not go alone and he would not leave treasured Necron relics behind. Therefore his goal became two-fold; acquire ancient and rare Necron Heirlooms, Artifacts and Technologies and then leave the Galaxy. As an afterthought he would try to destroy the galaxy on his way out but he decided that was optional.

The Lord of the 5th was slain as he awoke in his own chamber, cut down by the Vargard and his own Lychguard; a coup. Hakodes went on to seize power and eliminate all who opposed him or his ideals. After solidifying his power base, Vargard Hakodes began upgrading the Vaultworld by expanding its extra-dimensional vaults and adding more to its already extremely powerful defences. He chose to keep the title 'Vargard' instead of 'Overlord' simply because he considers his actions his duty - to be the guardian of Necron heritage.

With his preparations complete, Hakodes sent Monoliths deep within a few of the other Vaultworlds, specifically to ones he knew contained great riches and artefacts, and unleashed his troops through the eternity corridors. Within minutes, his forces had swept aside the Canoptek defenders and had begun to loot the vaults before their own armies could come online to repel him. Vast chambers filled with gold and precious metals were emptied, secure rooms with sacred antiques were scoured clean and giant vats filled to the brim with gemstones were taken. When the tide of awakening defenders began to overwhelm Hakodes' strike forces, he ordered them to withdraw, and whilst his swiftest units escaped easily, other, slower units were left behind. He had sacrificed many Monoliths and vast numbers of Warriors and heavier units in order to get his hands on all that treasure. In his mind this was worth it for the mission had been a success and for now he was one of the richest Necrons in the Galaxy.

After a few centuries, the Nihilakh Dynasty caught up with the 5th Vaultworld. Having recently teleported, it couldn't flee until it had recharged and so was forced to defend itself. Nihilakh swiftly brought its power to bear in order to prevent the 5th Vaultworld from escaping; Multiple Tomb Ships commenced bombardment and the flashes of weaponry and shield flares would be spotted by an Imperial Outpost years later and misidentified as a Supernova. With its shields failing, the 5th's skies were swiftly filled with swarms of descending Night and Doom Scythes and the glowing trails of gauss weapons-fire being flung up from defensive positions. After about a month of intense fighting, the 5th Vaultworld managed to teleport away. The fighting had severely depleted what remained of their troop numbers, damaging many beyond repair and their flyers had all been lost as well, either left behind when the Vaultworld teleported or destroyed in the combat beforehand. Hakodes was annoyed at the losses they had sustained but was glad that neither of his primary objectives had been compromised. He spent the next century repairing battle damage and moving away from Nihilakh space.

During his travels and raids, Hakodes found multiple references to an ancient necron technology capable of shaping the galaxy. According to what he found, he believed it to be on a world named Thanatos and such a Relic piqued his interest because it aligned so well with his goals; it is of ancient Necron origin and is also capable of destroying the Galaxy.
He would take it if he could.
