So fluff wise, what happens to the drop pod doors during/after landing?

From my understanding, they are blown off.

Are they blown clean off (i.e. not hinged)?
Are they blown off with a hinge at the bottom?
Are they blown off after landing?
Are they blown off during landing?

The reason I ask is I have some NOS drop pods i'm trying to assembled, and i'm stuck. I'm not sure if I want to glue the doors on for ease, leave them hinged (which i don't like because terrain and models get in the way), or if I should not even put the doors on and scatter them on the field after I put the pod down.

Thanks for any insight!

Considering the model has a hinge I'm guessing blown off at the top with a hinge at the bottom.

The fluff refers to the hatches being ' blown ' on landing. Given that they are hinged doors, this would most likely refer to them being opened by a small explosive or compressed air charge on the seal, rather than actually being physically torn from the pod.

Rules-wise, do what you want. The pod is designed to be assembled with the doors opened, closed, or movable... So any of those is fine.

Although if you put it on the table with the doors closed, you're not going to be firing the pod's weapon any time soon.

If you've played Dawn of War (and while it's not always a shot-for-shot perfect example of 40k) the drop pods land and then the doors blow open at the top, falling down on the hinges. It would also explain why the inside of the doors look like they're made to be walked on.

On the tabletop, if you're concerned about the doors getting in the way of models and terrain, I'd either leave them off or just don't open them if there's going to be something in the way.

Insert obligatory Michael Caine Marine here: "Sergeant, you're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"

Ahem...

I say build it with the doors hinged, and when you get to deploying it, just arrange is it avoids the worst of the other stuff on the board, and any doors that you can't drop due to terrain just leave up. Any that would fall over minis, just pick up the mini, drop the door then place the mini back on top (bearing in mind that the doors really don't count as part of the vehicle).
