so after getting into read 40k novels and owning a 30K Pre-Heresy Salamanders army i feel like i should probably read all the HH books to get myself fully familiarized with the lore of the time and how everything fell into place. Id like to read them all in chronological order so if anyone knows the specific order they should be read in that would be great thanks!

The first four are must reads in chronological order to start with IMHO, they set the scene and then you can pick and choose from the rest as they vary in quality. I however am just reading them very slowly in pretty much chronological order, I might eventually read them in all in 20 years

As said, I believe the first 4 are the only ones that you really 'need' to read in order. Others form sub-series dealing with particular campaigns or events (such as the Caliban, Calth or Prospero battles or the Mechanicum stuff), so those should be read in their correct order.

Another route might be to pick up the Visions of Heresy book; it's written more as a chronology I think, but covers everything major and is full of great artwork.

The best order is Book:

7
4
8
1
11
2
12
1(I liked that one so read it again)

After that just read them in whatever order as the order that I provided is best for the story.

Well I am currently reading them

1
2
3
4
5
6

The story might not be as ordered in-universe but there's no way I'd allow myself to skip a book.

Alternatively the Black Library has a reading order as well: http://www.blacklibrary.com/Home/our-ranges-horus-heresy.html

I prefer to read them in release order though.

Read them in the order they were published, skipping Fear to Tread, the two Dark Angel books, Deliverance Lost, Nemesis, and Damnation of Pythos.

And I'd argue that Fulgrim is every bit as essential to the opening of the story as the first four books.
