OK. So, Corran is set up PTL, R2-D2, FCS, Flechette Torpedoes, and Munition Failsafe.

Corran TLs Whisper. Whisper shoots, gets a focus.

Corran fires torpedoes (losing lock), likely missing Whisper (Focus+Evade, if she's being defensive). She gets stress. Corran gets target lock from FCS, keeps torpedoes from failsafe, fires again. 2 stress on Whisper, Corran moves green to get R2-D2 to repair damage next turn (while she's probably not shooting back). Whisper spends time not shooting because of 2 stress.

... does that sound like a tolerable strategy to deal with Whisper? I suppose it'd be easier to use VI, but I like PTL on Corran. The evade helps keep him alive.

Can you really attack twice in one turn like this?

Does it work? Yes. Is it a good idea? Probably not. You're spending almost half your points on a ship that isn't doing any damage, and since you only attack every other turn they can clear stress before you can exploit their vulnerability with Corran. So you'll need some other ships that can kill the phantom once you put stress on it, and that's kind of difficult with only 50-55 points left, especially if you want to have a list that isn't so focused on killing phantoms that you struggle to deal with other strategies. IMO the best way to use Corran is to kill everything but phantoms and take Han/VI Dash/etc to deal with Whisper. Spend the points from the stress gimmick on an engine upgrade for Corran so you can make 90* turns while still using R2-D2 and clearing stress.

And I agree that PTL is almost mandatory on Corran. VI Corran beats Whisper's PS but sucks against everything else.

The one thing I don't have is a Falcon... and thus, engine upgrade.

Oh, never mind. If you can't proxy/borrow the card I'm not sure it's worth taking Corran at all. When you're limited to 45* turns it's too easy for your opponent to get behind you and never give you a shot. You really need the boost option to give you another 45* unless your plan is to kill some ships and then stall with Corran until time runs out.

It seems silly that you MUST have a slip of paper, the abilities granted by which are well known.

"I took veteran instincts on this pilot"

"Do you have the card?"

"No, but it adds 2 pilot skill, and costs a point, I already have it factored in."

"I'm sorry but I won't allow that, I can't depend on your memory to say what the card does."

"You have the card, you're using it, too. It's right there, on your ship. That one. I'm using that upgrade."

"Sorry, nope. Not going to allow it."

Especially when all the upgrades are listed online. If you want to try something, just try it. Tournies are a different story, of course, but we're not playing in tournies every week.

Our ongoing tournament allows printouts from the popular online squad builder tool, which is good as I don't have anywhere near all the cards.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

The problem isn't that my fellow gamers wouldn't allow it.

The problem is that I have enough trouble remembering abilities when I *do* have a card in front of me. It'll be 4 points I never use because I forget I can.

I keep running Corran with R2D2, shield upgrade, predator, and Sensor jammer. I know it is a lot of points, but seems to do well. I pair him up with a couple of cheap b-wings and seems to hold its own.

My friend and I like to use the cards for every upgrade we've bought, but I have a stock of card sized pieces of paper with the upgrade written out on them for the stuff I don't have or for duplicates.

This build will probably fail short at one point, where whisper will not evade all the shots(it is easy to manipulate to take 1-2 damage when you have both focus and evade).

At that point your flachette is gone, whisper only has 1 stress on it and your second shot ,if you take it; will probably be met with a token whisper.

And also another problem you might face is getting the target lock at all. There is a good chance your first engagement with whisper will be with the phantom moving in range not the e-wing, and after that you might never get that Range 2-3 since whisper will just arc dodge or be in range 1 for the killing blow.
