I already have a Stormtalon, and a unit of AM. Gonna ditch the Landspeeders squadron out since they don't quite work as well as they used to. I'm wondering what I can replace them with. What do you figure?

How many points are you talking? 75? 150? 225?

A second storm talon would be a solid choice. You can get one with a typhoon launcher for 145pts.

A lot depends on what gaps your list needs filled. A bike squad might work well.

A squad of bikers is a pretty nice option. Put some grav or Melta on them and hunt stuff.

Vindicare Assassin could be a nice addition.

I was thinking of an interesting tactic to make landspeeders viable. Think about adding a skyshield landing pad, then pay the extra 5 points to be able to park your stormtalon there turn 1. take off turn 1 and get an extra turn of shooting from it and then deepstrike your landespeeders on to the now empty pad and use it as a fire support base while they get a 4++.

A second Stormtalon would be nice but I'm afraid of cheese insults. Mind you they are only Stormtalons..

The bikes would actually be nice, and open up some options for custom HQ builds. I have some plans for other armies to utilize the different SM builds, drop pods, mech assault and maybe the IH boys can do armour saturation?

I could add another pred, toss in an extra Stormtalon, and then add another dread. Seems legit! Oh and a LR of some sort for my terminators!

I'll keep the speeders green though, no sense repainting them. They do make for a nice change, but they're just not as durable as I'd like.

I'm not sure Stormtalons are worth their points? I don't have much experience playing against them, but every time I've seen one, I've turned it into flaming wreckage within 2 turns without any dedicated AA.

A thunderfire Cannon and 50pts of upgrades sprinkled through your army?

A stormtalon with sky hammers and 25 pts of upgrades sprinkled through your army?

Liberate 35pts from elsewhere and get a drop melta command squad?

A drop dreadnought with multimelta to be a distraction carniifex?

Ally in an inquisitor to get divination, and a liberal amount of uogrades with that budget?

I dunno... 2 storm talons sounds pretty sweet.

And yeah they die pretty easy, flying rhino chassis after all, but I think they make great infantry killers. The Skyhammers are great for all sorts of stuff. Of course there are better weapons but I like the versatility of a 3 shot auto cannon.

The only problem with Stormtalons is that you want to make use of escort run, but what to escort? 2 storms using ER means 4 units waiting in res, but on 2 rolls. If you had a reliable way to fudge res rolls then this would be perfect, but without that? Seems shaky.

On the other hand, bikes can get the job done without all the theatrics.

But theatrics can be fun too...

Tacticals in a pod/rhino. Or scouts in LSS. Extra obsec is always great.

The escort rule is one that is nice to have, but often not needed. If you are playing against someone with decent interceptor fire, bringing all your flyers on together helps you not get shot down piecemeal. You can also keep the talon in front of a more valuable flyer (like a loaded raven) giving it 25% concealment and a cover save without jinking.
