I am finally building my Necrons with the new codex release. However, I am a bit confused as to the base size per model.

Today I saw the new Necron Lord model and it's base, can anyone confirm what size his base is, I attempted to size his base by using a bag of different sized bases, I assumed it was a new 32mm but it may be a 40mm base, because 40mm and 25 mm were the only round bases in that bag.

Also, are the Necron Warriors on 32mm now along with all the other troops?

GW is unfortunately out of 32mm bases... I've been trying to get them for a month now. I don't care for the 25mm look myself, I could live with it but out of personal preference I'd like to place the troops on 32mm and the Lord on the appropriate sized base if it is in fact a 40mm. The Lord I have now was supplied with a 25mm and it's at least a year out from it's production.

Has anyone purchased Necrons recently and noticed a base size change?

Did you look at the product description on GW's website?

This 10-piece plastic kit makes one Necron Overlord armed with a warsycthe and resurrection orb. The model is supplied with a 40mm round base.

Likewise, from the product description on GW's website:

This set comes with twelve 25mm round bases, three 40mm round bases and three sprues of green Necron Rods.

GW is not basing all Troops on 32mm bases. Their decision to base a model on 32mm base is based solely on what they feel looks better for the models in question. This can be seen with the new Harlequins coming with 25mm bases. Old kits like the Necron Warriors most likely won't see any update to what size bases they're supplied with until they burn through their existing stock.

I looked over it briefly and obviously missed it, thanks for taking the time for that. So the Lord goes on a Terminator base.

Indeed. And, with Warriors, you will notice that it's not just an "old model" issue, either. The brand new Harlequins are 25mm bases. Frankly, I think the rule GW is using is, what base looks best for the model. I think some discretion is appropriate too. For instance, I recently rebased my Dante onto 32mm, even though he doesn't sell that way, because all other jump units (like Death Company) are 32mm, and Dante looks stupid with a small base mixed in with guys with bigger bases.

I was a bit resistant when they announced, but I kind of like it now, as the bulky models don't tip over on 32mm, and they just plain look a lot better. Plasma templates be damned!

BTW Necron Warriors, DE Kabalites, and Eldar Guardians would likewise look bad on 32mm, as they wouldn't occupy enough of the base.

I would prefer the 32mm so they don't tip over so easy.

The eldar i agree with, but if you don't convert the necron warrior legs then they look FAR better on 32mm than on the supplied 25mm IMO, as the feet dont hang over the edges.

Yes I have some coins under a few models. Lol I'm not at a total loss for that fix.

I'm going to set up a warrior or two on the a 32mm I have from my new BA Tacticals I grabbed up. I'm curious now.

Thanks guys for verifying the Lord on a 40mm!

For the record, having purchased Crons this week at a GW, I was handed 32mm bases in GW packaging to match the Warriors, immortals and lychguard I purchased

I was informed the new packaging will be with 32mm for the infantry

another important note from the GW website (from the reclamation legion box):

"It is also supplied with four 40mm round bases, three small flying bases, and thirty-nine 25mm round bases and forty 32mm round bases to give you the choice of how you want to base your miniatures. "

base what you think you like.

I have to say, I think the 32 would look better....however, for storage and transport, I will be sticking with my 25mm.

As far as Im concerned; "horde units" such as Warriors, Flayed Ones can all go on 25mm. Sure, they barely fit, but 32mm bloats the squad too large for my tastes.

Immortals, Lychguard, etc... 32mm is a perfect fit.

And I'll be damned before I rebase or do anything to change my ~150 Ork Boyz' 25mm bases.

Excellent catch! I wonder why there are 39x25mm and 40x32... I mean, the could have given 1 more 25mm

That is cool that both base sizes are supplied. I just do the Skinny Test now. If it's spindly model... 25mm. If it's a bulky model... 32mm. And if it has a jet pack, wings, or banner, 32mm. I think I may add cape to that list, as it adds quite a bit of bulk onto a model as well.

Also, I find that I really like the bevelled 32mm bases, in comparison to 30mm rounded bases (for WMH and some other games), for modelling purposes.
