Imperial Recruit in Training

Melbourne

Hello, i'm new to the forums so uhhh hey there. I've been playing 40K for a while now and just finished painting up my Imperial Guard (Grey and Black), now that I'm done with that and am currently too poor to buy some more I thought i'd write up some fluff for my army! So far what I've got is their regiments name and their home worlds name; The 93rd Corovian Vanguard, nicknamed "The Corovian Meatbags" due to the fact that they're often found right at the front of an assault...being the meatbags and cannon fodder between the nasty xenos/heretics and the important people. The planet they're from is called Corov which is on the fringe of Imperial space. Now that is pretty much what i've got, yeah I know not a lot and i'm working on it, but whilst im doing that I thought 'Hey why not let the people folk at DakkaDakka have at it and help me out and come up with some fluff ".

Cheers in advance guys, if you need any more info about the army just ask

I suppose you could make them kind of unruly since their from a sort of frontier world and I do like the name. The name suggest they get mowed down in droves so you could have some really detailed fluff for any of your veteran squads or commanders. Are they urban themed (I ask because of the color scheme)?

I like the idea. Since their known for their assaults I imagine you could write them up to be from the violent underground and scum of the planet. You could also model them to represent this

Start with the world itself. What kind of planet do they come from, what is their culture like? Then go on to your regiments organisation and history, and finally figure how your world and regiment relate to the greater Imperium.
Those are the most important parts of the background. Try to find a single special, unique element or theme and build everything around that. Also be wary of mary sue-ism.

Common details:
A one or two sentence description of their home world (possibly even as little information as what type of planet it is)
What class they are recruited from (gangers, tribal warriors, professional standing army, conscripts, etc)
Their reputation and personality (stubborn, ferocious, disciplined, undisciplined, crafty, etc)
Favored tactics, favored weapons
Common iconography. Heraldic colors, symbols, animals, mottos, nicknames.
You already have some of this of course.

Why are the Corovians seen as "cannon fodder"? Is it their officers callously throwing them at fortified enemies? Are they fanatically devoted to dying gloriously for the Emperor? Or is it it part of the shock tactic they use, combined with a proper heavy artillery barrage before the charge?

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

For starters, I think they need to come from a Hive World since they're cannon fodder. Otherwise you'll run out of bodies to throw at the enemy soon enough!

Do you prefer neat uniforms Mordian Iron Guard style or more of a grimy Armageddon Steel Legion look? Do they march into enemy guns in ordered regiments or they do they surge forwards in a mass of bodies? What about vehicle use?

And the Angels of Darkness descended on pinions of fire and light... the great and terrible dark angels.
He was not the golden lord. The Emperor will carry us to the stars, but never beyond them. My dreams will be lies, if a golden lord does not rise.

I look to the stars now, with the old scrolls burning runes across my memory. And I see my own hands as I write these words. Erebus and Kor Phaeron speak the truth.

My hands. They, too, are golden.
