Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but it's a great bit of scratch building inspiration, and an insight into pre-CGI movie magic of the highest order:

Stupidly awesome stuff! Not just the detail, but the fact these designs just came from nothing. These days, it's so easy to look at something and say it looks like an X-wing or a Star Destroyer or a Rebel Cruiser, but back then they had almost nothing to go on. Star Wars definied the imagery of sci-fi as we know it, so it's very cool to see the very start of that.

Thanks for sharing! Take an Exalt.

I think what is most impressive, especially for the first movie, is that not only did they have to build these from scratch, but they had to build multiples of the same kit, looking exactly alike, for the purposes of blowing them up, too.

One chants out between two worlds: Fire, walk with me."
- Twin Peaks
"You listen to me. While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks
