So I'm converting over from Chaos. I just don't like them like I used to. I'm big on fluff and when I started out I thought they were cool but the more I read the more I don't like them as much. I have no wish to be a slave to any dark gods, although I did play a Khorne army and had fun with it. So anyways....

I'm creating a Blood Angels successor chapter called the Black Angel and I need help making their main 1500 point force. Their main theme is that they are one (if not the only) known chapter to have mastered control on the Red Thirst and yes THE BLACK RAGE through the use of technology created by studying the Butcher's Nails. They refer to these as the Devils horns. These pyschic neuro implants block the Black Angels from being able to see the visions created by the Black Rage and Red Thirst and turn the chemicals in the brain that are produced by these visions into pure adrenaline energy that the Devil's Horns then store in special housings inside them, and with proper training and mastery, the Black Angels can call upon this energy in battle, turning it on and off like a switch.

Now one thing... Yes I know my captain is expensive but its part of the fluff that he has what he has. I have made him as best I can to be pretty killy and survivable. Feel free to advise how I can improve this list otherwise by any means nessary even if you redo the whole thing. Some things I like and would like to include, some sort of personal retinue of elite soldiers for Isaak (the captain), I like dreadnaughts, vindicators and tanks in general, dropods etc,. Aditional fluff is at the bottom if you care to read it.

Overall startegy is to have Isaak and sanguinary gaurd cover hop into turn 2 charge with vindicators laying down fire as distraction. Dreads will drop in turn one and do what they do best while death company flank and scouts infiltrate and take pot shots. Tacticals drop onto objective and devastaors sit back and shoot down flyers. Like I said Im new to space marines and have no clue whats great so feel free to overhaul the whole list with the exception of the captain.


Here is a basic outline of the chapter.

Name of Chapter: The Black Angels

Chapter Symbol: A single Black blood drop against a red background.

Codex: Blood Angels

Color Scheme: All Black with the left shoulder pad red.

Renegade or Loyal: They claim loyalty to the Empire of Mankind, but in a batman vigilanty sort of way. Although they believe the Emperor to have been a great leader, they do not worship him as a god, which is after all, what the Emperor had wanted. They share similarity with the Salamanders on the belief that they are supposed to serve the people.

Theme/ Specialty: Close combat. They love to grab the enemy by the balls. They often deploy rapid raid like tactics, getting as close to the enemy as quick as possible and utterly destroying them.

Home World if any: Fleet Based

Codex Compliant: Not really, the Black Angels are similar to the Space wolves in their distain for Imperial authority and tend to do what they want.

Founding: 2nd Founding

Primarch: Sanguinius

Chapter Master: Isaak "The Black Angel"

Notable Members: Yet to be developed

Active number of marines: Unknown at this time.

Preffered enemy: Xenos

Gene seed mutations: The Red Thirst, Black Rage

Unique rituals: Instaling the Devil's Horns

Rival Chapters: The grey knights and the Inquisition due to there supissions of the Black Angels.

Personality: Despite their sinister reputation, the Black Angels are quite funloving and charismatic. They are known for being witty and cunning and (due to neuro enhancements from the Devils Horns) known for being exceptionally smart, even by astartes standards. The halls of their ships are filled with laughter and drinking, and they are very relaxed. But on the battle field they are graceful, deadly warriors.

The fluff seems intresting, but the list is not as strong as it could be.
The Captain's wargear is over the top, he doesn't need all that.
Valour's Edge, Artificer armor, Jump Pack and Digital weapons.

He may not have 3++ but it's not that useful anyway for the cost and the best thing is he gets the extra attack with his AP2 weapon.

Bolters on the Vindicators are useless (snap shoots them anyway) and the Tactical Squad is a suicide. At least give them special weapon.

I agree with the vindicator comment. Maybe just a regular storm bolter so that there is a 50% chance of keeping the main weapon if you get a weapon destroyed result against it

I like the shield on your captain but the fist seems a bit odd. Especially when they are cheaper on the SG. I know they don't have an invulnerable but with number of models they should get to strike

Check out Cassor the damned (or give him another name) from the deathstorm box. He is equipped the same as your DC Dred but for 5 points extra he becomes troops and a character. Can't take a pod but you can take it as fast attack for him

I would drop the magna grapples and the scouts. Take Cassor the damned instead of one of the dreads and in place of the scouts. Use the left over points to make the tactical squad worth something.

The Sanguinary Guard really want a priest.

Agreed. Worth noting tough, magna grabble is a free upgrade nowadays, replacing smoke launchers.
So no real reason to drop them as no-one ever pops smoke anyway.
