This past weekend I was at Life The Universe and Everything, a sci-fi/fantasy writer's convention in Provo Utah. It was great and if you ever can go, I highly recommend it. I was on some really fun panels this year and got to attend a many more. But mostly it was getting to meet with fellow authors and readers and talk about the things we love.
Also, I got to play a game with 'New York Times Best Selling' Larry Correia, author of Monster Hunter International and "Into the Storm" for Privateer Press.
We had two hours where neither of us had a panel so we broke out the scenery and armies and started killing.
Here's Larry getting his army ready.
My Nomads consisted of Tomcats, Chimera and pets, Geckos, a Zero and a few other odds and ends. His Ariadna were a bunch of drunk Scots, angry Russians and a few French guys. "I don't know their names, I just know the sound they make when they kill."
He was the one that got me into Warmachine, but we both love this game as well.
Here I am, eager to get fighting.
Most of his army was using camo but I figured he had his big guns up on the rooftops. So I started off by flanking to the left and trying to stay under cover. One of my Geckos got tagged by an autocannon, but nothing serious. I landed my Tomcats on the left and sent my Zondcat to scout out the situation. Turns out she ran into a landmine and two guys that cruelly gunned the little robot cat-girl down.
Then Larry attacked. He flame throwered my Gecko and Chimera squad, killing one pet and setting the goat and Gecko on fire.
Then some drunk Scottish guy with two machine pistols ran up and gunned down all my Tomcats except for the doctor.
On my turn, my Gecko killed the flame thrower jerk and my doctor revived the other Tomcats, much to Larry's frustration. Cries of "I should have killed the doctor first," were heard throughout the halls. The Chimera killed the drunk guy who had earned the name of "Scotty" for gunning down so many.
Next turn Larry took out my right flank Gecko and my Riot Grrl and in response my Sister blew his head off with a shotgun.
By then we both had panels and had to call it a draw. But it was a great, bloody time with many lessons learned.
Larry was a great player and really gets into it. I look forward to the rematch.
So, if you're ever at a Convention, look us up and maybe we'll get a game in!
