Does anyone still use these things? Im just wondering because the nerf hammer seems to have been laid down pretty heavily on it and it looks like a basic reinforced Ram now with an extra ability that can 99 times out of 100 be ignored or made useless.

So question, does anyone still use this thing and if so how so I can see if its worth the point cost....im doubting it is.

They're still stuck to a couple of my models, so yes.

They count as a Ram, which I'd always take anyway, and is only 5 points more. I tend to tank shock a lot, it is a deterrent against Death or Glory.

I have honestly never seen a successful Death or Glory to begin with.

You need to tank shock more

I've had Wraithguard and Meltaguns trash many a Wagon. Power fists, meltabombs it's all worthwhile when it's an auto hit.
If you're tankshocking things a lot, spending an extra 5pts to deter any Death or Glory isn't that bad.

I shell the extra five points for the deffrolla on the wagon that my nobs ride in just cause it looks dope as hell.

I still miss the glory days of crushing Rhinos and Leman Russes like a monster truck

Yup, and Space marine players QQing is the reason we don't have our Deff Rollas anymore. It was realistically the only weapon we had on vehicles with a good chance of killing other vehicles. Instead we get a wrecking ball...not bad but D3 means average of 2 S9 AP2 hits and you don't get to reroll dangerous terrain rolls :-P

What were the old rules for the deff rollas? I didn't play in the older editions and very rarely play orks now, so not too familiar with them.

EDIT: Meant to say play against orks. Don't play as them.

basically, when you rammed an enemy vehicle....or tank shocked infantry you got D6 S10 AP- hits. So against a land raider you ram the damned thing and you averaged 1-2 penetrating hits. It was GLORIOUS! and for that reason people feared battle wagonz. now though....they are just a front armored transport with the ability to be a useless transport with lots of light to medium weapons or a really useful transport with some rokkitz or Big shootas

Haven't seen it being used effectively since the drop of 6-th with premeasurement. So, not a huge loss imo. But it was a darn fun thing to use in 5-th.

how does pre-measurement effect Deff Rollas in your area?

They know exactly how far away you can ram a veheicle so they can place the vehicle out side of that range so that they aren't rammable.

Also for Wrecking Balls its d3 shots, not hits

Aye thats true, about the D3 Shots not hits. As far as the pre-measure is concerned, you needed to use that to your advantage, placing your BWs where they would scare your opponent to not put his vehicles, then you place other units capable of taking out those vehicles in the other direction. I managed to funnel a land raider and a rhino into a Nob squad with 3 PK's and a Warboss with a PK once. Multi assault 2 dead vics :-P

I had a Pariah cut a land raider in half, anime-style, once, while doing a DorG.

No idea what a Pariah is :-P but even if its a S10 weapon its still glancing on a 4 and more importantly penetrating on a 5+ which means right off the bat its a 1/3 chance to pen and then you need a 6 to immobilize and lets do the math, say you have an AP1 weapon and my vic is open topped so thats another +1 so you need a 4+ again to destroy it so 1/2. Statistically your going to fail A LOT! but like i said, I have never done it because its not smart for my boyz

Well, yeah, DorG should be risky, both thematically, and for the trade off of what's probably going to be a relatively low point model getting to one-shot a much more valuable one.

In my case, S4 + 2d6 pen seemed worth the chance to take out a land raider, especially since in 4th edition, a glance, and then 6 on the glancing damage table was enough to kill it dead.

The only unit I have that can reliably take out a vehicle is a terminator with a chainfist, and I'm not going to risk a 40+ point model to 1-hit a vehicle. Literally, unless I'm against a rhino with 1 HP left I'm not going to risk it. Either that or a melta bomb sergeant, if the vehicle had one HP left or the game was at turn 6 and depended on that vehicle being destroyed.

In general I think it's better to just step aside then charge the vehicle next turn, so everyone can hit and you get multiple hits from said models. Which is better, 1 guaranteed hit or 3 that hit on 3s?

If the enemy is crazy enough to do so, you may Death or Glory with a shooting weapon and auto-hit.

Tank Shock against Devastator marines with Lascanons is definitely worth a Death or Glory

Again not really, depends on the vehicle. If you DorG my battlewagon with a lascannon you need a 6 to penetrate. S9 vs FA 14 so you need a 6 to penetrate and a 5 to immobilize and 6 to explode. Yeah its a chance but is risking a model thats almost 45pts worth it?

A lascannon marine is 34 or 35, something like that

But yeah, not worth the risk. I do wonder, does sidestepping a tank count as moving (would they snap fire?). Or is it only movement during their own movement phase? Never came up in the past, and don't have my BRB on me for the wording of heavy weapons.

it count as movement, but since its in your opponents turn it wouldn't effect them firing during your next shooting phase.

I though that any "forced movement" in your opponents turn counted as having moved in your next shooting phase? will have to look into this....

Also, yes, if you Tank Shock with AV13+ DoG is probably not the best choice. But so many Tank Shock with Rhinos that i'd take the shot any day..

everyone tank shocks with useless transports once they have done the assigned job. I regularly ram infantry units with my trukks after they are done. I hope they get blown up and kill some models :-p
