Context:

Dark Eldar - Haemonculus Supplement - Scarlet Epicurean Formation - Harmonculus Warlord Trait provides D3 Victory Points if the Haemy Warlord is killed by AP1, AP2, or Instant Death.

So the Haemy decides to attack an opposing Monsterous Creature, hoping for death by AP2 from the MC's Smash.

Question:

Can the MC choose NOT to use Smash and the AP2 that it provides in order to deny the Haemy death by AP2?

I'm thinking no, because the AP2 component is intrinsic and not optional (unlike the Str x 2 component). But the BRB RAW doesn't actually say it's not optional and one might argue that if it doesn't say so then it's permissible?

Assume the MC is Str7 and the Haemy is T4 so no ID.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Its attacks are AP2. Meaning it's a fact - not an optional ability.

"All of the close combat attacks, except Hammer of Wrath attacks, of a model with this special rule are resolved at AP2"

Hope you kill it with your Hammer of Wrath hit.

No, the AP2 is not optional. Only the single Smash attack is optional.

Not sure how it would work with that specific situation but remember this, if your attacking me and my warboss is in a duel with you, I can choose to make all my CC attacks with my slugga and not the PK.

And if your warboss has the Smash special rule his attacks would still be at AP2 regardless of what weapon you've chosen to use.

aye lol, i was just commenting on the fact that on MC's can reduce the AP of their attacks. this was to help him with a question that was implied but not asked :-P

Best bet is to use the Smash ability and hope your single shot misses.
