This is awkward. Hi guys. Been an awfully long time since I decided to be regular with updates, to keep myself focused and motivated and not suffered financial and medical issues that have pretty much led to my mind being scattered all over the place at the moment. And truth be told, I feel kind of guilty for not keeping myself motivated and up to date. So here goes. I've decided if I'm going to do something I may as well do it right.
Let's start over again. But let's not overwhelm ourselves like last time.
The goal of this is just to keep me motivated and painting again. As such there's going to be a slightly different approach here.
First, for a starting post - only two photographs. Squad close ups will be provided as requested or when I feel that I can get a decent enough photo or that a squad warrants it. No more elaborate collages of single models - that would drive me barmy and probably you as well.
Second, as you will notice - I've blanketed things. No more individual listing, no more giant list of what isn't painted. For now I will just put pictures up of what has and explain a few things about where I'm going with each. And then we can get rolling from there.
The Good
This photo is unfortunately potato. But still, it's an overall photo of what is currently done for my Imperials as of the moment. What you see is the tiny allied detachment of Imperial Paladins in the dark blue and gold...and the rest, well, let's say I went slightly OTT with my Flesh Tearers.
Now what I will start off by saying is that my big old list of Imperial Paladins yet to be painted? Ignore that. Some have been sold, some scrapped and a very, very large chunk have been stolen into my Flesh Tearers. Turns out I like painting dark crimson more than a shiny lacquered blue effect and I can do so much more quickly and efficiently too. The more eagle eyed will have noticed...that I got the arms wrong on the Flesh Tearers. My bad. I was positive I had seen something somewhere with black arms. Turns out I was probably cuckoo, so I went ahead with it anyway and will explain it via fluff as being a sort of campaign/penance marking. Probably from just after the 'incidents' on Armageddon. We know Blood Angels are rather fond of painting their armour black when in mourning (or having gone bat-gak loco) so I assume that a successor chapter would have similar traditions. That and it's also a nod to the all black armour scheme from Rogue Trader.
But yeah, the Flesh Tearers are my main focus Imperial Wise. Quick, dirty and easy to paint up, plus I'm rather fond of the fact that as well as the 2nd edition Tactical Squad there (with the 2nd ed arms, backpacks and bolters) I have another 2nd ed. Tactical Squad with modern arms and backpacks, a 2nd ed. Assault Squad, a 2nd ed. Dreadnought, a 2nd ed. Captain and a 2nd ed. Chaplain too.
But yes, there will be a small force of Imperial Paladins, a larger force of Flesh Tearers....
The Bad
And now the combined Chaos to date. Again, not listing everything but that's what we have there at the moment. Personally I take more delight in painting the Death Guard/Apostles of Contagion at the moment and will likely go back to the Extinction Angels at some point once my urge to paint purple is there again. I am really proud of the Death Guard forces. Simply because I feel they're some of my best work. And yes, that is Cypher you spotted at the front as well. Decided to treat this as a mixed force and play about Fluff when I need to in due time. Simply put it lets me focus a bit better and I can easily treat the Extinction Angels as renegades or if I really want make an allied detachment chosen from the Crimson Slaughter book for them.
The Everything In Between
Of course other things will crop up on this painting log as Whimsy takes me. I still have my Tyranids, I still have my Lizardmen and Dark Elves for Fantasy (though if the 9th edition rumours are what they are I may just stop caring and keep them at 8th ed. standards) and I still have some Eldar to dabble in. There may even be random odds and ends as I fancy them. Shocking, I know.
What's next though?
Well, the next things planned to be painted are what will be either an allied AM force for my Flesh Tearers...OR a Renegade and Heretic force for my Chaos. All using the same models.
I have 3 squads of the old Kasrkin that have most of the Imperial insignia removed or damaged/worn, as well as a squad of 10 old metal Catachans due to arrive this week as a FW Renegade Command Squad.
I plan on taking great care to remove any distinctly Chaos markings and playing with their Fluff to create the idea of a 'neutral' minor faction that will work for Imperials or Chaos depending on their own personal goals. I plan on keeping a distinctly military theme - painting up the FW Renegade Commander as a burn scarred grizzled old Veteran and keeping the others as his personal retinue.
Chaos Allies - From IA 13's Renegade and Heretic list
HQ - Renegade Command Squad - take the Bloody Handed Reaver devotion (which allows me to upgrade the Veterans to Grenadiers with BS 4 and Hotshot Lasweapons)
Elites - Marauder Squad (the Catachans!)
Troops - Veteran Squad - upgraded to Grenadiers
Troops - Veteran Squad - upgrarded to Grenadiers
But wait, there's more for this plan.
INQ 28 rules? Halp!
I keep being inspired by the Blanchitsu articles in Warhammer Visions with the different warbands and find myself wanting to see if I can get local groups to do Inq28 things. But finding the rules and all will be....awkward. And I'd definately want to use my Chaos as my focus. In fact, I'm even eyeing the miniatures and considering what would be appropriate.
Considering...
Chaos Sorcerer - possibly as a rogue Inquisitor or an actual CSM Sorcerer.
Chaos Marine - I actually have a Plague Marine that would work as is. The tester model for my Death Guard.
Catachans and Kasrkin - possibly using these as acolytes and cultists. Or even going as far as just using them on their own with their commander as an INQ 28 Warband in their own right.
But here we go, eh?
Comments below folks - if you want closeups and better photos please let me know and I will provide and hopefully over the next few days we can commence the Neutrals, eh?

Subject: Reboot - Painting Til I...Something. Imperial, Chaos, Other Things On Whimsy
Thank you. I can get better photos at some time if people ask. I have all the time in the world over the next few weeks.
But update!
Speak of the Devil and it shall happen - supply drop this morning in the form of the Renegade command squad and the metal Catachans.
Yes, before anyone asks - alternative supplier for the Renegades.
Looking over them...hoo. Going to be some work. The idea with the Renegades is to smooth the spikes off and try to make them look relatively neutral. The commander will have the chainblade replaced with a sword and some tidying done to him.
And the catachans have a surprising amount of aquillas I need to get rid of.
One More Thing - or derp, I failed to mention it.
I also stumbled across a lone Elysian that I had bought a while back as a tester model for a D-99 list that was forming in my head (but financially will probably never happen unless I win a lottery or encounter someone stupid I mean kind enough to throw money at me).
So...
That's another Inq28 thing then I guess?
So yeah.
Spent some time reading through the old Inquisitor stuff and deciding on ideas for the Inq 28 warband, which would also allow me to make use of what I have.
I see two approaches here.
Either I do a roving traitor force with a Chaos Marine leading it - not likely as I don't have cultists and it would probably ruin the idea I have for certain elements. Plus I am lazy.
Or...
I do a 'neutral'/renegade warband. Probably to develop more of the fluff behind my Neutrals (hence why I use them with both Imperial and Chaos forces). Heck, I could probably even use the Commander as the main figurehead of the warband itself. Fill it full of IG and a few storm troopers - possibly do the Elysian up as a mercenary specialist of sorts.
This sort of neutral warband would also allow me to play with other ideas and perhaps even convert up some stuff specifically for Inq 28.
Thinking - a Renegade Space Marine - not one of the Death Guard, perhaps done in the Extinction Angel colours but not as full on corrupted as his former comrades have become?
I want my warband to have a distinctly military feel to it.
The idea is that they are a mercenary company of sorts. The Commander and Kasrkin as survivors of an abandoned deployment, the Catachans as marauders, hired for convenience. I'm sure a Renegade Space Marine would fit in with that idea as well.
Not Imperial. But not quite Chaos.

Subject: Re:Reboot - Painting Til I...Something. Imperial, Chaos, Other Things On Whimsy 18/02 - INQ28!
Woah. Woah. 2 updates on the trot. Calm down there.
Well, no!
A busy night has resulted in the following - my proud little Inq28 Warband. No paint on them just yet and some are also going to be in my normal 'neutral' allied contingent so some got to be more special than others but I figured I should post my fluff and reasonings here, as well as the WIP stage photos, right?
The Karthasian Talons
Alignment: Neutral
The Karthasian Talons are technically a 'renegade' faction that has come about only recently, within the last twenty years. The origin of the Talons seems to stem from an Imperial force that was sent to the sector as a 'rescue' mission and deemed lost following a series of transmissions by the Astra Militarum Commander who had been placed in charge of the operation. It is believed that the current leader of the Talons is that same man, though how he survived the tragedy that befell the expedition is as of yet unknown.
Curiously the Talons do not seem to be openly heretical in their views or actions. There are no visible dedications or behaviours that one would normally associate with heretic cults and there appears to be no sign of mutation or corruption within their ranks. They appear to view themselves as loyal to humanity, feeling that the Imperium has abandoned them or betrayed them and that they can protect the populace better without the restrictions and regulations of Imperial doctrine. This mindset is strikingly similar to that displayed by the Renegades known as the Soul Drinkers as well as the more esoteric Rogue Traders that Inquisitorial Agents have been known to employ from time to time.
Commander Johan Fraubtz, 'The Burned' - Imperial Guard Veteran
Once a handsome and noble Imperial Commander, Johan's fate was destined to change with the assignment of his strike force to a rescue mission within the Karthasian sector. Located on the outskirts of the Imperium the Karthasian worlds had a history of frequent xenos assault, from roving Ork warbands drifting to the next great Waaagh to Eldar raiders and corsairs, a history that had affected the resident populace by making them strong, stubborn and naturally resilient in mind, body and soul. Yet this was not a trait shared by the off-worlder bureaucrats the Imperium frequently sent to rule over the sector and to collect the appropriate tithes.
When this sector came under attack from a stray pack of Hive Ships lost from the most recent 'bout' of Tyranid splinter fleets the same bureaucrats sent out distress signals, causing the Imperium to react and to deploy in force in order to rescue their resources. However, this rescue mission did not go smoothly. On learning that the strike force had been sent to rescue but a scant handful of individuals Johan refused and those under his command, feeling the same chose to remain within the sector and defend against the assault until a true defense could be sent to aid the locals.
The results were devastating. The strike force was almost utterly destroyed and Johan's faith in the Imperium he had served for so long in his life was broken, sundered by doubt as he came to realise the scale of meaningless sacrifice for the sake a few greedy and cowardly individuals. Johan himself was severely injured during the conflict, caught up in a devastating fire and trapped, laying in a pool of bio-acid until his own personal unit found him and pulled him to safety. As a result he is heavily scarred, marred by the burns he suffered, his right hand forced to be amputated due to the necrosis suffered while he lay atop it in the chemicals used by the Tyranids. From this experience the survivors chose to all but abandon the Imperium, helping lead the remnants of the Karthasian sector to a state of independance, training those willing to start taking up roles as a defense force for the inevitable counter strikes to come.
Johan also set about making contact with other forces known to operate in the area, beginning the process of offering the newly formed Talons' services as a sort of mercenary force in order to build up resources and supplies. A mercenary existence means that, for the most part he cares not who he interacts with be they imperial, heretic or xenos so long as the rewards promised are delivered and his sector is left safe. In time his missing hand was replaced by a relatively crude bionic, a blade implanted into his wrist, incorporating components of his own personal sword which he had long been unable to use prior to the bionics.
The Red Guard, Last Survivor of Squad Terminus, Personal Bodyguard of the Commander - Storm Trooper
The Red Guard is the last survivor from the Militarum Tempestus detachment that was assigned to the Strike Force under command of Johan as his personal bodyguards and has remained by his side for the entirety of the formation of the Talons. What is odd is that his armour remains in the original colours of his unit, having chosen not to repaint it as a few other survivors from the strike force did, as well as other recruits brought in along the way. He is personally responsible for the Veteran units of the Talons, units formed using the salvaged equipment and armour of the Tempestus Scions who perished during the incidents which took place.
He is not one for speaking, remaining silent at all times when around the Commander and indeed none save the commander know his true name. To the Karthasian men and women who have joined up with the Talons, as well as the others recruited from other walks of life he is simply the Red Guard. The commander's bodyguard, executioner and enforcer.
Arbitrator Adric Elricson, The Lawbringer - Adeptus Arbites
One of the newer recruits brought in during the last twenty or so years, Arbitrator Elricson was disgraced and discharged from duty for drug related crimes and issues on a long forgotten Imperial world and subsequently found on a Talons assignment to raid a passenger transport alongside the renegades known as the Extinction Angels. Recognising the then dishevelled, bitter and hateful man's potential the Commander had him brought back to the Karthasian sector not as a prisoner or a sacrifice but instead as a guest. Having been shown the fledgeling independant state and made aware of its legal issues Elricson threw in his lot with them, once more donning his former equipment and taking an active role in the newly formed Veterans, activing as a discipline officer for the Talons, as well as for the newly formed independance as a whole.
Still to come....
Specialist Retriever Melvin Edmunds (Pathfinder), Gabe 'Hellfury' Jones (Imperial Guard Veteran with meltagun), The Herald of Liberty (Space Marine)
((More to be posted later on today. I had typed up a fair bit but fell asleep at keyboard and accidently deleted a lot! ))
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, let's get on with this. Sleep does good, right?
Specialist Melvin Edmunds - Pahtfinder
Melvin is an oddity amongst the Karthasians. A mercenary hired for his skills in information retrieval, with his own equipment and gear which seems to be somewhat more advanced than that worn by the Karthasians themselves, or their new offworlder allies. From the skin tight, pattern shifting camo-suit to the slender lasrifle with detachable sniper modification, Melvin has proven himself more than capable. The only 'issue' is his build - frail and weak compared to his comrades, and his personality which seems to grate on the nerves of most. His love for snippets of knowledge, riddles or wordplay serves to do little more than infuriate the much simple Karthasians who seem that as an insult to them, or aggravate the weary veterans and mercenaries since recruited.
Gabe 'Hellfury' Jones - Imperial Guard Veteran
Hellfury Jones is a member of a mercenary contingent recently recruited into the Talons' ranks, and as such maintains his own gear and has his own traditions and quirks which they are only just learning about. Some of their band still seem to have some reverance of the Imperial faith, while others are a bit more rebellious. Jones is neither - he sits by the wayside, content in one thing and one thing only. His job. He loves the destruction the meltagun brings to the fore and basks in the afterglow of the flames, a quirk that has drawn the attention of the Aribtrator as a potential concern at a later date. As such Jones' presence within the warband is a necessity rather than choice. After all, what better way to observe and test someone than by keeping them by your side...?
The Herald of Liberty - Space Marine
The Herald, as he has become known is something of a diplomatic envoy and advisor, sent to aid the Karthasians by the Renegade chapter of the Extinction Angels following their recent split from the Imperium. In practical terms, he is the strength of this warband, a juggernaut capable of soaking most and dishing it out in return, but that is all. In political terms he is an envoy for the Extinction Angels. There are odd times when the Karthasians will broach an imperial envoy or approach an imperial faction and during these the Herald remains silent. Fortunately his armour is not as corrupted and lost as those of his brothers, for where several chose to embrace the fell powers the 3rd company did not, their armour patterns only changing due to necessity and survival.
And there we have the warband. I see them as a mix of personalities and will admit, yeah, part of me has drawn in Batman villains as inspiration.
The Commander has some form of inspiration in Two-Face, Melvin has inspiration from the Riddler, Gave has inspiration from Firefly and the Arbiter has a Mr Freeze inspiration to him - he's not so much evil as doing things out of necessity and shame.

Subject: Re:Reboot - Painting Til I...Something. Imperial, Chaos, Other Things On Whimsy 20/02 - INQ28 WIP
Anyhow, popping in now that everything is undercoated and I've started work. First thing for the Inq28 Warband though...not the real power behind the warband (The Commander) but instead the Herald. WIP stages at the moment but yeah, first time painting an Extinction Angel scheme for close to two years or so. Yikes. Still, it let me play with some ideas for the purple and I think I have the purple at the stage I'm happy with. Probably going to weather and add some chipping later on in the painting.
Photos don't do it justice. I might try against a black backdrop later on to see if that helps it any, but I suspect more painting is the solution here. Sorry the front turned out meh compared to the back for photo quality. I just don't know half the time.
But yeah, armour mostly done, have to do the helmet and backpack and I'm purple-free, then can start on the rest.
So why the Herald of Liberty first? Because after reading through all the old Inquisitor stuff I rather liked the article explaining Space Marines in games - and the Herald is odd in that he's not so much a central power (I mean, ruleswise he's definately the strongest of the warband so it's not like I'm doing the taboo of a Space Marine plus an Inquisitor) but more an advisor to this fledgling neutral power that has formed. I like to imagine that in games where the Karthasians 'ally' with Imperials that he will keep a very low profile, perhaps not even showing at all to avoid being caught out in that respect - would be kind of awkward for a neutral power to suddenly be caught with a renegade.

The armour on that marine is really nice, can't wait to see the finished mini!
Also, very much a fan of the backstories, even if they may be a little batman flavoured

Subject: Re:Reboot - Painting Til I...Something. Imperial, Chaos, Other Things On Whimsy 21/02 - INQ28 WIPs
@Imperator97 - cheers for that. I'm rather happy with the armour. Certainly not done in the same way I'd do the bulk of them for tabletop - I personally feel Inquisitor stuff requires a bit more a personal touch and perhaps a bit more respect with painting so it was me playing with an idea - especially since I pretty much have to try and make a quicker way to paint the buggers as a whole.
And Batman flavour was purely coincidental. Blame me watching Gotham in the background. Is it bad that I love the way they're portraying the Penguin's rise to power?
Anyhow, update time - more work on the Herald. This time with a black backdrop for the photos which worked a bit better - except my original photos got blurry and shaky hand syndrome. Bah to random twitches.
The metals - mostly done. Need to do the golds now, still have a few gunmetal and silver bits to do but doing them as I come to them. Seriously, the metals help with a lot I guess.
Also, pouches! For some reason painting pouches makes me so happy....

Subject: Re:Reboot - Painting Til I...Something. Imperial, Chaos, Inq28 22/02 - More Inq 28 WIP
More WIP. I know, I'm terrible. This time on the gold and starting some of the shoulders. I think the plan is to get this done up and then apply some weathering to make the Renegade look worn. I should imagine that Renegades don't really have the liberty of keeping themselves immaculate and shiny compared to still loyallist Imperials. He's shaping up well enough, so I'm happy with that.

Subject: Reboot - Painting Til I...Something. Imperial, Chaos, Inq28 22/02 - More Inq 28 WIP
Sorry for the delay folks. And glad to see Chaos Emperor approves - so, chap with a Mr Freeze avatar, I guess the Arbiter is next, eh?
Yeah, few days of no WIPs or anything due to a house cleanup for a sales inspection (I rent, guy was looking to buy and keep renting.) Guess I'll find out when I do about that...but for now...
So more WIPs to catch up. Well, I say WIP. All that needs to be done is the base and transfers - obviously going for a faux loyallist effect on it so yeah, expect a weathered tactical squad symbol in the end.
But enough chit chat - pictures!
So those are from above.
And these are from ground level as it were.
Rather please with how this has turned out in the end.
Next up? Well, shall I put that to a vote?

Subject: Reboot - Painting Til I...Something. Imperial, Chaos, Inq28 27/02 - Armies Painted and totals
Yep. Slow update. Busy few days with my birthday and all.
Just posting a bit of a supply update and stating I will probably start the specialist next.
And yeah, the update is some characterful little bits.
Old Stormtrooper Sergeant and Grenade Launcher - dear god these little things are are super detailed with pouches and holsters and the like - all that good stuff you'd normally stick on an Inq28 mini to make it a bit more than normal...and they've already got them!
Probably going to paint them in different schemes as well - thinking I may do the Grenade Launcher in an arctic scheme and the Sergeant in a desert scheme.
Also, an Enginseer. Or, conveniently enough - a tech adept for Inq28! He'll also fit in nicely with the Karthasians - I can openly envision the Adeptus Mechanicus not really caring whether they work with neutral or Imperial factions - they're a cult in themselves.
Also, some paint stripping underway - total cost of this sweet little set up? A mighty £1.75. That's £1.50 for the cookie jar and 25 pence for the cleaner, which so far has worked a treat! Tim over at the Vanus Temple put it up on Facebook and I just had to try it on some old 'charity' 2nd ed Marines I had...Painted so thick in metalics and painted on white paint as primer there was no details. As you can see, it works a treat after a minimal soak. It also works on metals - I have an old Kroxigor stripping (part of a Blood Bowl team) and decided to strip a couple of not too hot dreadnoughts I got for my Flesh Tearers.
One old metal Dreadnought (that'll easily strip a treat) and one battered plastic dreadnought - which when I look at it is a definate case to strip, scrub, soak, scrub, soak and scrub....
So far I've realised it was painted as follows - Gold and silver over bare plastic, painted on black undercoat, then ultramarines, painted on white undercoat, dark angels, painted on white undercoat and then sprayed on black undercoat. Yeah.....definately got some problems.
Long story short - long term sick with migraines and depression.
Employers failed to notify me of SSP ending on the 16th of March, meaning I got paid NOTHING for May and might not be paid anything at the end of this month - yeah, there's complaints in, appeals, long conversations with managers and HR as we try to fix this.
And to make rent this month I had to sell rather a lot off. My old metal Nurgle CSM army, ALL my Fantasy (Goodbye Lizardmen and Dark Elves *Sniff*) and odds and ends - including 2 of my traitor Kasrkin squads.
However, some silver linings on all of this.
Newfound focus- I've narrowed armies down and decided to stick now to 40k. A hard decision but a necessary one. I've sold stuff I was never going to need or use.
Dark Eldar - some sales produced profit so I've treated myself to some second hand Dark Eldar for rather cheap. 1 HQ, 2 Elites, 2 Troops and a Fast Attack choice in the space of 2 weeks for less than £40. Niiiiice.
So yeah, updates soon. But for those wondering with my fluff stuff updates and the like.
I still have my Inq28 Warband. Never fear!
My armies are now pretty much as follows...
40k
Chaos/Renegade
Extinction Angels (Chaos Space Marines/Crimson Slaughter)
Slightly reduced in size. Still a complete traitor Company's worth though and a number of the 1st company. Some of their assets have been split off to my newer secondary forces....
The Wrath (Khorne Daemonkin) - I'm due to get a hefty amount from a trade for my Imperial Paladins and some spare Tyranids - 4 Helbrutes, 1 FW Dreadnought, 2 big Cultist blobs, 4 squads of Raptors, 2 squads of Warp Talons, 1 Daemon Prince and a whole box of spares... add this to 2 CSM Squads, 2 Khorne Berserker squads, a Chaos Lord and a Daemon Prince and I have an impressive sized Wrath force, eh?
The Nameless (Tzeentch Daemonkin/CSM) - More stuff from the trade resulting in the following.. 1 Winged Daemon Prince, 2 Sorcerors, 2 Thousand Sons squads and 2 CSM squads in preparation for the rumoured TDK book coming soon.
Death Guard/Apostles of Contagion (Nurgle Daemonkin/CSM) - Still mostly FW, still very pretty.
The Karthasian Talons (Renegades and Heretics/Astra Militarum) - Reduced in numbers but combining them with the cultists from the KDK trade means I have a reasonable chunk - currently they are the Command Squad, 1 Veteran Squad (metal Catachans) and 1 Stormtrooper/Veteran platoon with a small command squad and a single squad.
Imperial
Flesh Tearers - Still going strong. Still plenty of them. Not done much painting in my absence but have got half the third Tactical Squad done for them and plenty more to paint (so many Vanguard and Terminators).
Xenos
Hive Fleet Nemesis - Still a staple large chunk but untouched for a while due to other distractions. I'll get back to them eventually. Have sold some off but still have large numbers to do things with.
Craftworld Il-Soru - My good old Eldar. Started getting back into painting them for the first time since 4th ed. Making some progress and using them and learning. I need to learn to just go all out on Turn 1 with vehicles to get the units in them in place. Treat them like Tyranids - swamp things with target priority.
I love their colours - yellow and red with bone weapons. No metallics at all.
The Kabal of Midnight's Silence - Dark Eldar allies - er....my bad. I got carried away. I now have a Razorwing Jetfighter coming this week. I could field a proper detachment now but don't feel I'm quite ready for that yet. I need transports. Currently I use them as allies for Il-Soru - Warriors make nice backfield objective holders and Trueborn can function as ghetto Fire Dragons/Warp Spiders depending on armament.
Currently I have an Archon, 2 Trueborn squads, 2 Warrior squads and a Razorwing Jetfighter on the way.
Going for contrast with my Eldar - dark blue and silver with tarnished metal weapons.
My Chaos forces...are on a pseudo hiatus for the time being. At least until I get stuff up for a trade - then I can start to strip it down and start getting back into the mood...well, a Khorne Daemonkin mood anyhow. But the rest? Meh. Until I see a new Chaos Space Marine codex I'm not touching them. Currently they're in that state of being so grossly underpowered it isn't funny. The sins of Haines do not account for this...we've fallen behind no less than two changes in direction and it shows.
My Tyranids...also on hiatus until I get back in the mood. Currently I'm lazily finishing off a Crone but that may be it for a while. I sort of feel that they're also in the same state as Chaos...they need a new book. They need something unified to make them viable again, especially when recent books have brought massed Skyfire and Strength D, massed armour and Overwatch at full BS...it doesn't look promising.
My Flesh Tearers are my side project. So they'll be done as and when I feel up to the mood.
My Imperial Paladins are gone - traded for a Khorne Daemonkin force. I just was never going to get round to catching up with them and to be fair, I had already fallen behind the SM arms race as I had no flyers, no Centurions and no Grav.
No, no.
Currently my love is Craftworld Eldar and some Dark Eldar allies. Currently I'm involved in a 40k map campaign in my local FLGS/club and I'm toying with my options. No formation bonuses, so I'm sticking to the CAD and allies for the sake of it. Three teams of four - my team is myself (Eldar with Dark Eldar allies), one pure Eldar army, one Dark Eldar with Eldar allies army and one Ork army.
Against us are the Imperial (1 Blood Angels, 1 Flesh Tearers, 1 Salamanders and 1 Imperial Guard) and Chaos (1 Chaos Space Marines, 1 Khorne Daemonkin and 2 Necrons).
Here's the current 2,000 point list - very aggressive, very assault based and it has potential for other aspects as well.

I'm painting them as my moods take me. The contrast of the two armies is easily visible in the first models I painted for each...
Visible contrast in colours but also what weapons and items are made of.
Craftworlds use a Red and Yellow scheme with bone weapons and green gems/lenses/lights.... and Commorites use a Dark Blue and Silver scheme with tarnished metal weapons and red lenses/lights....
Just for your perusal...some more images...of the Razorwing and the Wave Serpent...as well as a Kabalite Warrior for the Dark Eldar colour scheme and part of my Seer Council...
I love the vehicles really. There might be some more changes yet...mainly in markings on the Razorwing...
Any similarity to the Poisoned Tongue is purely coincidental.
Also, I rather love Warlocks.
Now only a CSM player.

Subject: Re:Reboot - Painting Til I...Something. Imperial, Chaos, Inq28 20/06 - More Xenos Shenaigans
Figured I may as well upload more images to show I've actually been making progress with the Craftworld Eldar side of things.
First thing's first...I've decided to stick to a limited palette and as well as that keep the weapons, grenades etc. consistent in the material they're made from. The same applies to the Dark Eldar as well.
First, a picture drop. Some Autarchs, the first 5 Dire Avengers, the Rangers and a Warlock Conclave to start with...already uploaded some pictures of the Wave Serpent yesterday...
The newer painted Autarch - Banshee Mask and Firesabre. He's very much a staple of the colour scheme - bone weapons, piping, grenades etc. Yellow and Red as the main colours and the 'hair' in the white...
The older Autarch - based on the special limited one from the 4th ed. Army box with some modified weapons. So yes, alternative power weapon, different effect for the forceshield...
The Dire Avengers. Well, 5 at least. 2 more are in the 'yellow' stages and the Exarch will be the last done.
The Rangers. Again showing the colour scheme and bone weapons. Fitting in but looking different enough to be Outcasts.
The Warlocks - I rather like them still. Discovered I still have two more to paint...since I'm shying away from using Guardians (because they tend to do very little and to be fair Dire Avengers are more effective and have more range) I can stick their warlock in with the rest for a Conclave of 7. With 2 Farseers it means my Seer Council is nice, beefy and generates 13 dice of its own for warp charges per turn.
Now...some Aspect Warrior colour scheme tests that I'm sticking with. I realised I can't go red and yellow with everything...well, not in this pattern. I have to actually tweak it for some variation.
Striking Scorpions - predominantly yellow with red banding, the green of their aspect in the runes and hair bands for the 'dreads'. I like this. It works and it still has the scorpion feel to it.
Howling Banshees - revert back to the red and yellow as red is a good solid base for them. The 'bone' of their aspect comes in with the masks and runes to mark them out.
Fire Dragons - the palette really lends itself to this aspect and to be fair, this pretty staple as far as coliur schemes go. Only real difference is the bone weapon and grenades.
Swooping Hawks - again with the yellow. Probably the oddest aspect to use the scheme but yellows can by skyworthy, right? Plus they're about as effective as canaries from my experience.
And now for the Dark Eldar.
Just need basing but I've got a good chunk of the allied force done. Plenty more Dark Eldar to paint, but for now I'm focused on getting the contingent of allies done.
The Archon - with the purple glow effect agoniser and blast pistol. Darklight is a fun concept.
First 5 Warriors - with blaster and Sybarite. I'm personally having more fun with the dead-flesh tabards...
And finally...
This shows the contrast of the Craftworlders and Dark kin nicely...
Not only have I managed to get steals of deals for some Hellions and Scourges....and another Razorwing...
But I also got this lovely thing...who is being added to the 2,000 point aggro-Eldar list.
In place of a Wave Serpent and the Wraithlord I get....a Voidraven with Night Shields, Void Lances and 2 of each missile. Lovely. Just what I need for the incoming vehicle squadrons.
