Very new here, been playing for about a year now and have about 4k of wolves and Tau.

I've been looking at a lot of competitive wolves list and gave it a shot.

HQ -

Claim an objective and have them pop up and hide in cover?

Well first off space wolves require you to take 2 HQs to be bound, you say you've been looking at a lot of wolves lists but I've never seen one like this. You shoulda just went with an ultramarines army because you're not really taking advantage of any of SWs good units

Well, gak. I also have 10 terminators, bjorn, a stormwolf and a drop pod. I was just buying what i thought would be fun to play.

What do you think the "best" units are?

Hey mate. I only play spacewolves so my advice for competitive wolves:

1. Always choose company of the great wolf detach from supplement for relics warlord traits and +1 WS to Thunderwolves and WG.
Run at least one unit with SS Thunderwolves (at least one PF in them) and a Thunderwolf lord or Battle leader with Kraken sword, SS , runic armor and fell claws teeth.
This unit acts like a death star and its the best hammer the wolves got.

2. Drop pods with GHs, at least 1 pod with 10 man 2 melta +1 combi melta or WG with combi melta for taking down enemy imperial knight spam

3.At least one Stormwolf

Thats for pure wolves.

If you wanna mix allies, Imperial Knights , Special chars like tigurious with Grav-Centurions or space marine chaptermaster with grav bikes is the way to go.

PS Whats the fun in spamming the same unit all over the place? Pretty boring if you ask me

If you are dedicated to this list, why pay for GH when you can run them as blood claws for cheaper and basically the same effect.

Take your storm wolf and bjorn (his steal initiative bonus can help)

run the priest as a termie with a squad of em, drop your pod first turn with some hunters in it. Then use the Wolves Unleashed perks to auto bring in either the termies or storm wolf.

Put a locator beacon on the pod for the termies to come in and unleash some psychic mayhem.

Why are the Long Fangs in razor backs? Why not just let them sit in the back field and shoot? you could buy a predator or use razorbacks as mini predators in your Fast attack slots

I like the knight because its just a fun thing to throw in, but the GH spam isn't as good as it once was, and deff isn't optimized here in this slow and steady formation. Either you need em in pods or you need to put ICs with em to get their outflank on a 4+

If this was a hyper competitive sure, but this is supposedly a friendly tourney.

Bust out some nifty combos, Wolf Guard in assault packs or bikes for lulz

Abuse hellfrost as much as possible and watch as multi wound characters fall

If this is truly a goofy and friendly tournament then you can sweep it with TWC or WGB lists and be hyper competitive, or you can have fun and do some goofy lists people don't often see.

You could still use the TWC and stormwolf without being too competitive. You don't have to take purely TWC lol.

Maybe skyclaws, TWC, CC dreads and wolf guard? This would be a nice way to play wolves as they're naturally a CC army due to their viking background and of course wolves are acceptable in a space wolves army in a friendly setting - it's in the name

Yeah, I've seen the drop pods be very effective loaded with grey hunters.
Maybe I should load one up, they can surprise and feth up just about anything, especially with termies coming in after.

Since grey hunters have 1 better bs I think it was worth the upgrade.

The reason for putting the long fangs in the razorback, they probably won't spend anytime in it except to get them
into a good shooting position potentially, is it's a kinda hard to kill box with a las or las/plas with 48inch range.


My two main goals were to have a massive amount of fire and force my competition to have to choose what to fire at.

The last list I played had a lot of expensive units and a lot of them, like the stormwolf just sat in reserves until later in the game.

Also you don't need 2 HQs to run SW from a standard CAD (only the unleashed detachment) and, at least in the context of this list, I believe the CAD to be better than either unique detachment simply due to obsec for his GHs. In this list that is.

Theres plenty of ways to power up your list as stated above since it really isn't that competitive. Basically more TWC more airwolf more forgeworld more drop pods less GHs less rhino chassis. If thats what you want then you need a rewrite. If not then tweaking this one is cool too.

For example, without radically altering this list I would add plasma guns to each GH squad. I would prioritize these above the chainswords. I would consider at least one drop pod as well.

The knight paladin could be a knight castigator instead (if FW is allowed) and be better for it.

Its been awhile since I broke out my wolves but I also enjoyed running MSU razorbacks. Thing is they aren't that resilient (or well even that efficient for cost) but they can be great against elite forces that like to come at you since you can present so many separate ap2 threats. Whether to disembark or not really depends on the situation. Its usually better to make people crack your rides and this strategy has good synergy with counter attack.

I removed one razorback and added a squad in a drop pod to pop in and just ruin somethings day.
I'm probably doing melta with them to deal with the back of a knight?

I guess since the squads in the backs are so small they will probably be shot before assaulted so you are right about the plasma.
