Subject: Best target for a Solitaire?

Played a solitaire last night for the first time. He did ok but i'm wondering how to get the most out of him?
I played against Orcs with Deathwing terminator allies first and he managed to survive the deathwing's shooting when they arrived first turn and then charge and kill a big mek and half its squad before dying to a second wave of deathwing shooting.
Second game was pure dark angels. Turn 2 he charged Belial's command squad and got into a challenge with belial because the champ was in a challenge with a sergeant. after about 6 assault phases belial eventually failed his invulns and fell, fortunately for me both of us forgot about FNP from the apothacary. The rest of the Terminators then finished off the solitaire.
So if a Big Mek is an easy target for a solitaire and a terminator squad isn't, what would you say is the ideal target?
Big mobs like boys are a no cause of the amounts of attacks, terminators are probably a no because of they're invuln.
Probably small to medium sized units with no invuln such as marine equivalents like Tac Squads, Crisis Teams etc. are the best targets.
What are your experiences with the solitaire and what do you think is the best way to get the most out of it?

I don't know yet there are so many unanswered questions, we've seen some of the wargear but not all. We don't know if he'lll have other choices like a neural shreder or power weapon or Artifact. We don't know what the Enigmas are (unless I missed a leaked codex page, which is possible i haven't been following the rumors pages very closely) . hold tight untill friday, pick up the codex and all your questions maybe answered.
currently:
Small units, non-HQ monsterous creatures (tervigons etc), or HQ choices that aren't some uber beefy special character. Units that have WS 4 or less should be targeted with high priorty when alone. Strength of the unit is irrelevent since most things that you want him to face are going to be wounding him 3+ or better.

The relics don't really help much I am afraid...
He is best against low model count elite units as the caress kills these well

Back fielders. Any CC unit should take him out.

The solitaire is a precision model. Think of him as a scalpel, something that wants to choose his engagements. Use him either with a supporting squad charging into a horde to ensure a kill, or target a backfield unit as mentioned. I've had him tie up a seer council for three turns due to positioning and other units charging in.
Limiting the amount of models that can swing back at the solitaire is key. With most things hitting on 5's versus the solitaire, he's pretty hardy. The grande masque formation allowing him to reroll invulnerable saves of 1 should also help, but it's a lot of points invested in him.

I played him against Tau and i must say, his threat range in combination with a death jester is right absurd. I took him with the "solo jester/seer/Solitaire " formation, infiltrated them all into cover for 2+ cover, and twice I was able to Death Jester squads towards him for him to take out.
I think optimally he's a "shock and awe" attacker. You want to hit people who don't have the attacks to cause wounds on him. His pattern of engagement was something like:
-oh hi 12 man fire warrior squad I've dealt you three wounds.
-oh, you failed to touch me with your eight attacks. Roll morale-4.
-So, now for sweeping advance....what's YOUR initiative value?

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

l targets for the Solitaire will need to fill as many of these criteria as possible, in roughly decending order:
- Able to be run down (no ASTKNF/Fearless, he'll just get bogged down)
- Fewer than 10 models (again, so he won't get too slowed down or have to worry about taking damage in return. Hit and Run helps, but the fewer enemies the better I say)
- Low number of attacks (obviously, he's safer against Fire Warriors/Cron Warriors than Orks or CCW CSM)
- Weak Overwatch (maybe avoid charging something like a Heavy Flamer)
- The target is isolated (less risk of counter-charge. Combines well with DJ pulling units out of position)
- Low Init/WS (really not essential, but the former just helps running them down)
