Hi Dakka,

To clarify, I don't need the Ink replacement, my brother does. A paint scheme that he has come with for his Skorne relies on GW's long defunct 'Red Ink'. He has a little, that he has had to water down out of necessity, but I don't reckon that that will last long. It's an oldy but a goody as they say.

Do any of you good people know a quality Red Ink by another company?

Cheers.

i use P3 Red Ink...
it works great, and dilutes well for glazing...
rather appropriate for Skorne, too...

I take it the GW Carroburg Crimson wash doesn't do the trick?

I got some Andrea inks a couple of years back. My god, they're strong. :-) Work brilliantly though. Other than that try standard artist's inks (Daler-Rowney, Winsor & Newton).

Sadly, no. He says that it does not provide a strong enough colour. That was my first response too!

I'll look into that route actually. There is a good artist shop not far from my house. Cheers

He has got some P3 stuff, but I don't know wether he has that particular shade. I'll double check anywhoo.

Cheers Dakka, enlightening as always

Do you mean the CDA manufactured ink in the circular pots or the tall hex pot stuff? I might have some of the tall hex pot stuff since I got 500+ pots of various inks and paints from a stock liquidation.

I would try artist's inks. In addition to those already mentioned, Liquitex also makes inks. Washes don't have enough colour to them to match the old inks. I'm not sure what P3 inks are like, but I know Army Painter inks are just like GW's current washes, nothing like the old inks.

Try this. The guys at FW now use it.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I really like the Vallejo Game Inks. I think they are more of a transparent than a true ink, but they are easy to find and work with.

Daler Rowney is good artists grade stuff, used there paints etc at uni.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

Liquitex Naphthol Crimson Ink is what I use, you can huge amounts of it for relatively cheap.

Haven't used the Daler Rowney red, but I can also attest that the line seems to be good from the inks I have used (black and blue).

Would the Secret Weapon red washes help? I use Ruby to tint and shade my Blood Ravens. They have several shades.

in my experience, P3 inks are proper inks, and not washes...
the colors are very strong, and i cut a drop of ink with about 10-15 drops of water before i glaze with it...

VGC red ink would be my recommendation. Art acrylic inks are useful, to be sure, but they don't behave the same way that hobby brand inks do (or did, in this case). The Game inks aren't as thick as paint, but they have a bit more body than my Daler-Rowney stuff. Definitely inks too - not pre-mixed ink glazes or washes.
