Hey guys, just wanted a quick clarification if I'm getting this ruling right. Mindshackle Scarabs give the bearer Fear while in a challenge, and fear tests as a result of this have to be taken on 3d6. Now, the rule for Fear is that if you're in base contact with an enemy unit with one or more models in it that have the Fear special rule, the unit must test. Would this mean that, if by accepting a challenge from my Overlord, the entire unit would be WS1 if they fail?

RAW that's what I'm getting from this, and if so, MSS is actually better than it was IMO (Unless you're 65% of the game which ignores it).

Which is why it's worse. And old MSS not only did they not hit you, they hit their unit, so it's better unless you are going against a large non-dedicated CC unit.

So yes - it's better against Conscripts.

I'd rather have the new effect, I would just rather most of the game not ignore it.

Uhm, don't have the rules with me here, but I don't think you need to be in a challenge for the rule to take effect?

In either case, the whole unit is affected by fear, and they will all strike at WS1.

I agree it is still very good, when you play an opponent against which it actually works.

Agreed. Fear is a personal bugbear - it's a nice, simple rule which you virtually never use. I actually forgot monstrous creatures have it until halfway through the game the one time it became relevant recently, because it had never come up before...

One thing in favour of the Age of Darkness rules for the Horus Heresy - marine-on-marine fights become a lot more devastating when you take And They Shall Know No Fear out of the equation, and the handful of units which are actually Fearless really, really stand out.

Termagants expended for the Hive Mind: ~2835
