I've been putting together an ork trukk rush list. I know it's not the most competitive thing out there, but I'm trying to optimize something like this. So the list is mostly composed of boyz in trukks, warbikers, deffkoptas and some wagons.

So I was wondering what your opinions are on stormboyz - specifically where the core of the army is boyz in trukks.

Does anybody have any experience using these guys lately, and how do they synergize with a list that looks like that?

Well, Stormboyz are an interesting beast. They cost a little more than a boy, but are much, much faster. Hell, even faster than Trukks possibly, in theory. But the issue with Stormboyz is they tempt us by allowing us to now bring them in squads of up to 30. When they in fact, serve better in small, trukk sized squads.

You use them to jet around the field, landing behind LOS blocking terrain, until you get close enough to jet into combat.

They will do either 1 of 2 things.

1.) They will take attention off the Trukks for a turn. Maybe two, depending on how many squads you bring, and how many bodies per squad you bring.

2.) They get ignored in favor of busting the Trukks open, and you have Stormboyz slamming into their front lines at the end of turn 2, stalling their threats while everything else catches up.

The issue is, if you field stormboyz with trucks all your opponents anti tank will flatten your trucks and all anti horde weapons will gun you down. You don't have any threat saturation like this you are just fast. Stormboyz are strange in that they belong in a foot list and are too fast in ideal slogging lists.

They have to be a throw away unit or the main purpose of the list IMO

Anti horde weapons aren't really in a competitive meta. They show up in friendly games with people who know you are orks.

I really think, like Mel, they are suited best as a small group.

I would theorize that 90+ stormboyz behind a got screen could be the kind of turn two assault that would dice check any army planning on avoiding all assaults until turn three.

8 to 11 (math?) stormboyz could assault a wave serpent and glance it to death. This is only a thought because the stormboyz can travel far enough to make assaulting a serpent a possibility. As a small unit like this they could serve many assault assist purposes or fetch jobs like wave serpents, because when you are tired of shooting jink without ignores cover you have to catch the damn skimmers somehow :/

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

Thanks! ok so the things I took away from this:

1. Go small. 5-10.
2. Use them to divert attention from the trukks. If they are ignored, then slam them into the front lines to tie up enemy units until the trukks arrive.
3. Use them to take out high priority targets like Wave Serpents.

What do you think about upgrading one of the stormboyz to a boss nob and throwing on a pk/bp?

Stormboyz are so much fun in a large horde setting!

Greentide
Painboy
2xGrots
3x30 Stormboys

It can fit in a 2K list depending on how you gear your tide

that does sound like a ton of fun, but There's no way I can afford 90 stormboyz lol. Like I said in my first post, I'm planning to run a speed freek/trukk list.

I run a squad of ~10 with pk bp nob. They jump around hiding out of los and than perform a ~22-27' charge. Works great with footsloggas. They heavilly depend on WAAAAGH!

I can see some use for a trukk/stormboyz combo on a semi-crowded terrain table, as the stormboyz will be able to hide behind and jump over cover, while the trukks zoom through the open terrain (while still hugging cover where possible).

But at the end of the day, all either are delivering is a squad of boyz - unless they arrive simultaneously and in numbers, they're not that big a threat.
