It's A legal way to run Orks... And I assume the squads are still seperate squads.

In Green Tide they are all counted as one unit due to the special rules of that formation.

It's one of the ways you can make an army. You can use a Combined Arms Detachment (page 122 in The Rules), the Ork Horde Detachment (page 102 in Codex: Orks), the Great Waaagh! detachment from the codex supplement (page 50 in Waaagh! Ghazghkull) or you can use the Ork Warband formation (I'm assuming you're talking about this, it's on page 88 in Codex: Orks). In the codex supplement there's a Green Tide formation (page 58 in Waaagh! Ghazghkull).

If you're talking about the Ork Warband formation then the units are all seperate. They do not join together to form a 'super-unit'. By fielding them in this special formation you gain a couple of special rules that apply to all the units in the formation.

The Green Tide is the formation that is made up of multiple boys mobs and they join together to form a super-unit of 100-300 Boys and a Warboss.

Ah that's cool, I didn't know that. Anyway, the rules are all there in the formation rules. Normal formations don't make a super unit though.

You're assuming OP reads the rules.
