I never really looked at this guy in much detail, but now that I do, he seems amazing!

For those of you who don't know what he is, here is his a link to his profile on forgeworld:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/d/Dred_Mob.pdf

Big Mek Buzzgob has a Warboss's statline, and comes with a big choppa, 'eavy armor, bosspole, and 2 grot oilers. This equipment makes him pretty good in combat, and an average +2 attacks from Mek-arms means he has 6 S8 attacks on the charge. He averages 3 glances/pens on a vehicle when he charges so he can work pretty well as anti-vehicle. He also has the benefits of being a Mek with 2 oilers. He seems like he could be really good in a Dread Mob formation, and he could do a lot for any army. He even has the, "Waaagh," special rule, so Dreadmob walkers can benefit from, "'Ere We Go!"

Does anyone else think he is competitive?

Does anyone have any gaming experience with him?

OK

He seems pretty lackluster to me. Especially when you can build a T6 warboss with 5 S10 AP2 attacks on the charge and is way faster for only 10 points more.

Suppose it's personal preference, also more to do with what kind of list one is running.

If I were running a lot of vehicles/walkers, I'd take Buzzgob as he synergizes well. If I were taking a lot of infantry, I'd take the Warboss Herpguy mentioned. The Warboss makes a better point and click destruction unit, while Buzzgob can do multiple things. Either attend to the vehicles, or go off on a spree of his own with a statline that is still nothing to sneeze at.

Does he count as a big mek for certain um...formation? requirements?

So could you chuck him into a formation requiring a big mek?

I don't believe so, as he is a named character, not a generic Big Mek. Unless his rules specifically state otherwise.

The only reason to take buzzgob is to field a Stompa for 400 points.

Actually he's not bad as you mentioned vs armor because unlike a power klaw, his "axe" won't cause him to blow up the vehicle.

FW have been very open that that is a typo, it's 800 not 400

So an Objective Secured Dreadmob isn't worth it?

Buzzgob doesn't make them ObjSec, just scoring, which they are already.
His Trait doesn't do anything. If Dreds are taken as Troops in a Detachment that has ObjSec they'll get it anyway.
