Hello,

As it relates to painting styrene models or resin figures ... what is the difference between varnish and mediums? In particular I'm looking at Liquitex gloss varnish or the gloss medium as a final gloss sealer or finish.

Thank you!

Varnish is something you put on top of your paint after it dries to give it the surface you want (gloss or matte) and seal the layers below it. Medium is something you mix into your paint to change its properties.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I'd expect to find that the varnish cures to a harder finish. Being more durable and better for handling than a medium would do.
Medium should be just colourless paint ~ and so have the same easy to chip properties.
