Subject: Discourage a friend from playing DW Knights?
|
 |
Ancient Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought
I... actually don't know. Help?
|
My FLGS is going to have small, 250 Pts games, and the only limitation is that you need at least 1 troops unit. Now, there will be tons of new players there, and a friend of mine is planning to bring his DW Knights. Sigh. If he brings those, he'll stomp all new players so much that they'll stop playing. I know them, most of them are 8-10 year olds and I don't want him to discourage them from playing. How do I tell him he's being a douche bringing them?

Well there's no way you're getting DWK, Troops choice at 250 points, so it's realy a non-issue.

That's what he's not understanding, I quote:
I know we'll be needing 1 troops choice but we'll see if I can take them
and
I think they're fun, I don't care

In that case, just point out that the maths of it. 55 points for a Scout Squad leaves you 195 points, DWK are 235 a squad.

You should point out that it's silly to not care about a point limit. I mean, what if someone says, "Here's my Baneblade. It's a fun unit, and I want to play it against your 250. Cool?"

Slash his tires before the event so he doesn't arrive!
-
In all seriousness though, tell him he HAS to take troop choice, there's no way he'll get them in - but, if that isn't working, (I have tried this a few times, and it works sometimes) contact the event organiser and inform them of what he's doing to stop him.

Call your friend out on his bull. If he's a good friend he won't get offended and maybe he'll see what you're saying if you don't sugar coat it.

If there is a prize why not. In our warmachine and WFB league the top 1-4 places always had one or two of the store owners sons , who were using units other people couldn't get stright from their fathers collections. In one event they got 3 riptides in each of their armies, when most people couldn't even get 1.

They had 3 Riptides in each of their WFB and WMH armies? Wow!

So you're saying I should encourage him to stomp 8 year old kids? Shame on you.

If he doesn't understand that the unit is 235 points, not a troop slot, and he can't get a troop in the 15 points remaining, then there isn't much you can do for him. Talk to the guy running the event. If he tells your buddy "No, that's illegal", then problem = solved. Also, he sounds silly.

I say let him do it cause whoever's running the event will laugh at him, shaming himg out of participating altogether in regards to the points issue.

1. A lot of new players will mean there will be a lot more old players. You're friend won't be the only one bringing cheese and TBH there's a lot worse things than DWKs.
2. This is a non issue as you can't fit a troops choice and take DWKs at 250 points. Now if you are saying he's outright cheating, if he shows up with DWKs get him DQ'ed.

I can only assume, from the sounds of it, your friend is also 10 years old? Doesn't sound like something an adult would do.
Either way, you don't have to do anything since he can not bring a legal list.

Deathwing knights are good, but nothing to worry about in terms of balance - even if your friend could fit them in.
Without a landraider they are even less of a threat.
It's not like fitting in a flyrant or something else of similar power at said points level.
