As an Imperial Fists player, I of course field Darnath Lysander. He's expensive, but he's just such a tank.

The only problem has been figuring out which is the best second HQ to put in my army. I have the kit to build a chapter master / captain, and I have a terminator chaplain.

The terminator chaplain usually fulfills a similar role to Lysander (i.e. going with a squad of terminators that deep strike).

So, the question is this: should I stick with the terminator chaplain (who is very complimentary to what Lysander does) or should I kit out my chapter master / captain for more of a support role? Or is there another HQ that would fulfill another role in my army (like a librarian or a master of the forge)?

PS - for more background to my play style, I run a heavy gunline of devastators (with ablative wound marines), a thunderfire cannon, and centurion devastators as an "anvil" with deep striking terminators (one squad assault, one squad standard) and a storm talon gunship forming the "hammer."

Personally, I take two contrasting HQ's. In my case as a BA player, Captain Karlean - who is almost as tanky as Lysander - and either a Librarian - for psychic support - or a Sanguinary Priest - to boost my DC's survivability. I find that this works very well in games, Karlean leading the charge with TH/SS terminators while being backed by a librarian.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

sometimes you should bring complimentary HQs, other times differing ones. What do you think of psykers? how about a librarian on bike or with a jump pack?
