I've narrowed it down to these 5 choices but damn is it hard to make a choice.

I've considered special units and rites of war (obviously not UMs since theres are not out yet)

I want to make my legion one of two ways or maybe be able to do two different types of armies.

I want to be able to bring fortifications (Imperial Fists seem logical right?) I'm intrested in fielding a Castellan bunker

I like some of the big heavy hitting vehicles.

but this is where I dont know what decision I wanna make.

I also want a fast army. jump troops, bikes jet bikes and sicarans. I think Raven Guard would make sense but i hate them aesthetically.

If i go Alpha Legion, I think it gives me a good excuse to to make a legion of mixed troops from the various legions.

Alpha Legion-

1) The look pretty unique. The metallic blue-green looks good.

2) They should be easy to paint. Hit them up with a base of blue, maybe add an additional thin layer of green to the models, then add something like scaly green or metallic turquoise to them. This is a lot easier then the Fists.

3) Their tactics are more interesting then the standard Ultramarine or Imperial Fists playstyle.

4) They should also fit your mixed playstyle. The Alpha Legion do whatever is necessary, although favoring fast, brutal strikes with infiltration.

Also, whatever army you choose, from what I hear, a Command Squad with a Praetor on Jetbikes is crazy good.

I'd have to say Alpha Legion. RG are good, but the fact that you can choose scout, infiltrate, counter-attack, tank hunters, move through cover or adamantium will is awesome. Add Alpharius into the mix and you get:

1. Preferred enemy for all your guys
2. On a 4+, your enemy brings in your identical version of the thing they're bringing in from reserves
3. Hiding in units

I'd say Alpha Legion too. Believe me, I'm having a very very tough time picking mine, so I feel your pain. Mines narrowed down to about 6. Currently I'm thinking of doing a Night Lords force with Alpha Legion 'handlers'. It's such a tough choice because bar 1 or 2 I find them all pretty interesting.

As you want a mix of tactics (fortifications, heavy hitting vehicles, and also fast units), I would suggest Ultramarines. While we don't yet know their rules, given Guilliman's master of war, they would be a likely choice for for being a mixed unit force, bringing a variety of units to adapt to any situation.

The only real issue I have with Imperial Fists and Alpha Legion is that they're among the most commonly played legions out there,

"You listen to me. While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

I imagine Ultramarines will be fairly commonly played. About 6 people have started UM plogs on the heresy part of Bolter and Chainsword recently. And there aren't many plogs there in total really so that's a fair chunk.

but would it be crazy if i picked Apha legion and my squads were painted like the different legions?

im in the middle of reading Unremembered Empire and the part where the UM squad tries to kill Guilliman got me thinking.

I also like that rule of theirs that lets them use a unit from another legions list of special units.

Well it's up to you but I think maybe sticking to the one unit painted differently using the Rewards of Treachery rule would be more effective.

Raven Guard. They need more love.

Out of these all options I'd go Alpha. They're the most fun to play with.

Finally found my quote from a gym buddy born and raised in South Korea:
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.
"It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
"It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
"It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."

You should play what you would find fun to paint and field. Alpha Legion in another Legion's colors would be interesting, but I'd limit it to a unit or two.

But whatever you choose, remember:

ALEXIS POLUX, 405TH CAPTAIN OF THE IMPERIAL FISTS, is watching. And judging.

That has to be my favourite character model from the HH so far.

If you're looking for multiple styles why not use allies, although it does restrict you from using some of the legion rites of war, it does open up different options.

I'm currently running an Alpha/Raven army, which changes primary detachment depending on how I want to run it.

Brb learning to play.

The borrowing other legions units thing does sound fun, but i recon that the ultramarines might have a future - they have 250000 marines, so there s plenty of equipment to go round!
