I have about 1250pts of dark angels miniatures for a second army and allies for the sisters, but no codex yet. Which should I get?

I have a captain, a librarian, two tac squads, two devistator squads, one terminator squad and two dreadnots. Nothing dark angel specific really yet.

There are terrible things in the DA book, but the book itself is fine. Deathwing is still a good strategy, as fearless termies that can deep strike turn 1 and are twin linked on the drop is still powerful and unique. Ravenwing bikes are strictly worse than white scars, but their toys are better (obsec attack bikes/speeders, darkshroud speeders, etc).

With what you have, space marines seem better for you. Particularly imperial fists chapter tactics.

What is so exciting about deep striking a single assault cannon and 4 storm bolters?

Compare that to Sternguard who can deep strike (also on turn 1) a drop pod with 5 combi meltas with special ammo

or 4 combi flamers with special ammo and a heavy flamer

At least Ravenwing have Plasma Talons and Corvus Hammers and Land Speeders that can be taken in troop slots
