Spartan Games has given their blessing to release a vassal module for playing Dystopian Legions. This is their 28mm, (32mm to eye) platoon scale game, based in the world of Dystopian Wars. Also note that in their
downloads page, they have also released the rules and reference sheets for
DL version 2.0
Here it is. The download link for the
DL module,
Version 1.1:
download
Consider this a beta release as there are a few models not in it yet.
As a quick guide on how to use it:
- Download and install vassal engine from www.vassalengine.org
- Download the module from above
- Open vassal engine, and go to File > Open Module
- Find the vmod file for the module and open it
- After the program caches the data, it will start a wizard to enter a screen name and password, and begin a new game offline
- If you scroll down you will see 4x6 and 4x6 maps, otherwise most are 4x4.
Deploying an army
- open the models tab, and resize the window if needed to see the board
- Find the desired model from the pull down and tab menus, then click and drag the picture of the model onto the board
- If you create a logfile before deploying, then end the logfile after, you will be able to reload the army list into any map with the forward button once loaded
Finding templates and tokens
- Go to the tokens tab and objective markers, shaken markers, smoke templates, deviation templates, they're all in there
- Coloured numbered tokens are a great way to keep track of command
Moving and using models
- arrow keys move and rotate models
- [ and ] cycle artwork on a model
- "n" makes numbers appear
- b and m add or subtract to numbers (great way to keep track of health or
cmd)
- some models have aiming arcs, like field guns and tankettes - press "a" to reveal/hide it
- Officers have command ranges, press "c" to reveal/hide it
Note, measuring sometimes doesn't work correctly. Sometimes it will fix it if you zoom in or out.
To measure:
- click the meauring tool button
- click on one point
- click again at second point
- the number displayed is in 10ths of an inch, so 60 is 6"
- click the measuring tool button again to clear it
Ctrl+C copies
Ctrl+D deletes
Shift+click or click and drag highlights multiple models
Shift+click can also be used to select terrain

When in doubt, right click on the model and a list will appear with most/all of the options to use it
Have fun. Updates will soon follow when new releases appear and as I am able to work out some new artwork that is driving me nuts at the moment.
